 No.278

>Date: March 1st, 2017
>Location: Paradise City - Southwestern United States
>Time: 11:00 AM

>A large, coastline city, situated off of the Californian coast - Paradise City is the 3rd of the 5 big "Core Cities" that house Meta-Humans in the United States. Created as a secondary failsafe in the event that Sanctuary City reached its peak carrying capacity - Paradise City remains a secondary hub for Meta-Human activity on the West Coast.

>The city itself is a series of spread out, island-like structures; each connected with a series of pneumatically powered bridges and rail systems. Hovercraft are licensed in the city, as large futuristic structures carefully gleam across the skies. Various hovering monorail systems move across the city's structures as well - contrasting against the glistening waters below.

>A loud humming sound can be heard in the distance, roaring with power as it disrupts the serene and calm air space. Rushing through the air - a large metallic apparatus moves across the clouds at high velocities. Exceeding the speed of sound, the large object slowly begins rotating on its side, its fins guiding its movement.

>The missile's trajectory is aimed squarely at Paradise City's center, directly surrounding the various buildings and skyscrapers that make up the Downtown area of the city. However before the missile can begin its downward arcing descent, a pair of bright red lasers pierce the clouds behind the missile - cutting it in half. Searing plasma scorch marks can be seen from the missile as smoke billows from the metallic chamber, the internal contents of the missile burning up in the air before cooling down in the waters below.

>Then a figure in black and red, a cape billowing behind them, quickly rushes to the clouds, hovering in mid-air as they look around.

"That's the last of them. Now I just need to find Energon…."

>Hyperia, hovering in the air while maintaining a strong posture, looks around the area carefully. Scanning the area below with her eyes, she begins to rapidly parse between the vehicles and people below. After a few seconds, she then states:

"There you are."

>In a blink, Hyperia then disappears, a trail of bright red light following in her wake…..

>The city's Downtown streets are bristling as usual, with some startling from the populace due to the destroyed missile above. The murmur grows louder as more people recognize the signature attack that destroyed it.

"Was that Hyperia?"

"Is she here? Holy shit!"

"Did she just save us? Wait, there was a missile coming our way?!?!"

>At that same moment, a pair of figures quickly skate across the waters separating major chunks of the city. The water sprays high for tens of meters into the air. Civilians then quickly move to get to higher ground, or into their cars - to avoid the burst of water coming their way.

>Hyperia is locked into an arm struggle with another figure, a man with a scowling expression and an elaborate suit, complete with a cape like hers. As the two figures battle across the waters, punching each other, Hyperia gets the upper hand and lands a haymaker punch on the man, sending him spiraling into a junkyard at the edge of the city - dozens of miles away.

"Tch. Amateur."

>Hyperia regains her footing, skidding to the surface of the water with her fingertips. As she re-establishes her sense of balance, she then flies towards the junkyard…

————————————————-

>Location: Paradise City - Recycling Plant / Junkyard

>Time: 11:01 AM

>As Hyperia arrives at the edge of the Junkyard, she lands on the ground - surrounded by a sea of rusted and corroded vehicles. Looking around at the scrap heap, she then says:

"You can give up now, Energon. Make both our lives easier here. If you don't? You'll end up like Providence did."

>Hyperia closes her right hand into a fist - a red ring on her ring finger shines with a radiant red light.

>The Junkyard then begins to shake rapidly as pulses of yellow light begin to fling cars at Hyperia - moving at incredible speeds. Casually, Hyperia sidesteps the cars moving to collide with her. She then carefully begins to spin her body around at superhuman speeds - generating a massive tornado effect. The tornado effect cycles out the intercepted cars and knocks them high up into the air, landing down randomly around Hyperia - until she's cleared out the entire Junkyard.

"Like I said. Your choice."

>Silence for a few moments follows, until loud clapping can be heard from the nearby derelict buildings. As Hyperia rolls her eyes and turns around, she sees Energon walking into the damaged Junkyard.

"Well done, Hyperia. You remain stronger than I could've ever imagined."

>Energon is a man, seemingly in his mid 30s with black hair. His hair has grey temples, a side effect of his Meta-Human powers. His cape flows in the wind, similar in length to Hyperia's, albeit sharper around the edges. His eyes glow with a yellow light as he gives Hyperia a malicious smile.

"And you remain annoying and unbearably smug."

>Crossing her arms, Hyperia then says:

"Why'd you steal the missile and fire it, bonehead? That was an experimental, military grade device from Daedalus Industries. You know how dangerous those are?"

>Energon gives an amused chuckle, moving his cape aside as he then stares down Hyperia:

"That was the entire point, my dear. Diversion. The city was never my target."

>Energon then moves at blinding speeds, appearing behind Hyperia as he whispers in her right ear:

"You are."

>Energon then makes a motion, seemingly trying to cop a feel for Hyperia.

"Yeah no."

>Grabbing Energon's hand with her own, Hyperia crushes it with enough strength to generate a shockwave through the Junkyard - sending more rusted vehicles flying backwards - dozens of meters into the air.

"ARRRGGGGHHH!!!!"

>Cursing in pain, Energon jumps backwards, hovering lightly as he lands on the ground. Looking at his hand, he sees it mangled and twisted - bent out of shape and unable to recorrect itself.

"Bitch!"

>Looking up at Hyperia with murderous intent, Energon then shouts:

"Impertinent runt! I will make you pay dearly for this!"

>With his other hand, Energon slams it into the ground, uprooting the ground in its entirety and causing a massive fissure of land to appear. As the fissure increases with more speed and force, Hyperia looks at the ground and says:

"At least I know you're compensating."

>Slamming her foot on the ground moving away from her, she digs her foot in and begins drawing the ground back towards her - demonstrating almost unfathomable levels of physical strength with no visible strain.

"Wha? How?!"

>Visibly stunned, Energon blinks, demonstrating a look of both confusion and dread as he struggles to recognize the implications.

{"How is she this strong? No Meta-Human has matched by strength! Even her, I figured she'd be weaker. No….her power might even surpass Chiral's…."}

>Shaking himself out of his shock, he then says:

"Tell me, Hyperia…."

>As his hand glows with yellow energy, it begins to heal itself rapidly.

"Do you feel pain? Do your muscles strain with that much strength being exerted?"

>He then stands up straight, cracking his knuckles as his body briefly glows with flashes of yellow light.

"Because I do not. I feel no fatigue, no pain. The energies from the forces I command, they sustain me."

>Rising up slowly into the air, Energon continues to monologue, looking upwards and stating:

"Oh if only you could imagine it. The power. The invincibility. The sense of liberation and strength-"

"You finished?"

>Looking down, Energon looks to see Hyperia directly in front of his face.

"Gah!"

>Hyperia sighs.

"Moron."

>She then punches him squarely in the face, sending him spiraling to the ground below.

"Insufferable wench!"

>As Energon scrambles to get back onto his feet, his eyes glow with yellow light once more - healing the damage as he begins firing energy bolts from his eyes.

"Ohhh fancy. I guess the thesaurus helps you feel smart, doesn't it?"

>The rapid fire energy bolts actually begin to track Hyperia, as she begins moving quickly through the air - avoiding most of the energy bolts.

>Still weaving effortlessly through the energy bolts, Hyperia then continues speaking:

"You know what your problem is, Energon?"

>The villainous Meta-Human then continues firing energy bolts from his eyes, now taking a moment to go on the offensive - rushing towards Hyperia.

"You don't stop to take a breath."

>Not to be outdone, Hyperia takes a deep breath and releases a massive surge of cold air - rapidly lowering the temperature of the area and flash freezing Energon solid.

>After a few moments, a series of large ice structures appear - rising hundreds of feet into the air. Energon remains frozen in place, surrounded by heavy sheets of ice, except for his head.

"Hmph."

>Tapping the side of the ice, Hyperia then thinks to herself:

{"Flash freeze should've knocked him into a forced hibernation state. Should hold him long enough to get some answers out of him."}

>Now immediately freezing and rapidly bitting his teeth, Energon can feel the energy rapidly being drained from his body. Recognizing his inability to move, he then says:

"What did you do to me?! Release me this instant!"

>Hyperia, now demonstrating a smug grin herself, then says:

"When I feel like it, bonehead. Don't bother trying to break free, I made sure to get as close to absolute zero as I could."

>Gesturing around to the junkyard surrounding them both, she then says:

"Besides, your energy's the only thing keeping the place from freezing over. Thanks for being such a good temperature magnet."

>Ice patches slowly begin to reach Energon's face, as his powers begin to lose to the rapidly encapsulating thermal vacuum. Genuine fear now in his eyes, he states:

"What the hell do you want from me?!"

>Hyperia assumes a thinking position with her fingers next to the temples of her forehead and her palm pressing against her cheek.

"Might want to tell me who put you up to this? Pretty simple question I would imagine."

>Looking around with his eyes, Energon begins to think through his options - feeling the icy chill of the thermal vacuum reaching his back.

{"This woman…Creating a thermal vacuum with a single breath of air. My God, she's too powerful! I can't tell her the truth!"}

>The pain of the ice increases, as he continues to think to himself:

{"But if I don't…..I don't know what she's going to do to me!"}

>Panicking, Energon then says:

"Chiral! The Meta-Human!"

>Raising her eyebrow, Hyperia responds:

"Chiral? The rogue experimenter?"

>Energon nods quickly.

"Yes. Him."

>Scoffing, Hyperia then stares at Energon for a moment before stating:

"Thanks. I appreciate it."

>After getting her answer, Hyperia then delivers a swift punch to Energon's face knocking him out cold.

"Gullible too."

>As Hyperia's eyes glow red, she then generates an intense beam of red light - creating enough heat to disrupt the thermal vacuum - cancelling out the effect as it melts the ice.

>As Energon lands on the ground, Hyperia then reaches into the thin belt on her waist, pulling out a small tracker dart. After pressing it, a bright red light appears and she tosses it onto Energon's body.

"Tracer. Signal should be picked up for you soon. The MRD's going to have fun hauling you in this time, I'd bet."

>Waving to the knocked out body of Energon, Hyperia then quickly flies off into the sky, speeding away with incomprehensible speeds - towards a skyscraper far off in the distance of Paradise City.

>Flying off into the sky, the blur of black and red quickly moves towards a large, corporate skyscraper in Paradise City's financial district. As a red light appears from the figure - the blur phases into the executive suite of the building - rippling and then subsiding.

>A few moments later, a woman with brunette hair, a luxury cap and sunglasses then walks out of the changing room in the suite. Wearing a customized sweater, gloves and a pouch on her waist, Phoebe Grayson then walks towards her desk - sitting down as she looks at the tower of papers in front of her.

"….Let's see here…."

>Picking up a large bound notebook, she opens it to see the following words:

[EROS INC. - PRELIMINARY AUDIT RESULTS]

>Looking through her company's financial audit information, Phoebe scans it with superhuman speed, finishing the entire 200 page audit in around 5 seconds.

"Looks to be in order."

>Tossing the audit notebook back on her desk, Phoebe thinks for a moment.

"….I'll have to make something for Orion later tonight."

>Silent for another moment, Phoebe then picks up a specialized phone on her desk, and presses turns a few switches in an auxiliary port underneath the desk. The wired phone then makes a few specialized dial noises, before connecting to the recipient.

"Hey. Jonah, you there?"

>Location: Haven City - Northwestern United States
>Time: 11:10 AM

>Off the coastline of Washington State, there exists another large "Core" city for housing Meta-Humans. Haven City was the 2nd of the 5 major "Core" cities created to house Meta-Humans in a stable environment.

>Situated across the harsh waters of the coastline and built on an artificial coast, surrounded by water, Haven City is perpetually downcast - and covered by cloudy skies.

>The Archeon HQ building in Haven City is roughly the same size as the main Sanctuary City building. On the upper floors of the building, the CFO office - serving as the defacto CEO in the region, is preoccupied by Jonah Grayson. Phoebe and Aiden's twin brother.

"Hey, thanks for the help Mr. Johnson. I'll talk to you later about the data analysis conference."

>As he hangs up the phone, Jonah hears another sound - the secondary line. Raising an eyebrow, he answers it after making sure that the door was closed and locked.

"Hello? Yeah Phoebe, I'm here. What's up?"

>Jonah waits for a few moments, before saying:

"Wait a minute? What? Good thing you're using the encrypted line then. You just fought Energon?"

————————————————————

>Back in her office in Paradise City, Phoebe says:

"Yes, Jonah. He was a pushover, but he did say something interesting."

>Looking down at a manilla folder that Phoebe has on her desk, with a series of pictures covering it, she then elaborates:

"Chiral. He said that Chiral was his boss, and the one that put him up to this."

>Looking through the pictures and documents on her desk, she elaborates further:

"I've been following the reports that Aiden sent me. Multiple instances of genetic tampering, just like that MRD report said with Tension."

————————————————————–

>Looking back at his own notebook, Jonah then looks back out of the window outside - seeing the rain pour down in the city below.

{"I really need to figure out what's causing the downpour in this city. Maybe later."}

>Out loud, he then says:

"I'm still concerned that Aiden actually got the file. He's walking a tight line here, and I really hope he's safe."

>After hearing Phoebe's response, Jonah then says:

"Yes, of course. Still, I can look into this. Aiden sent me a correspondence of reported thefts in Haven City. Didn't seem more than a coincidence at first, the incidents."

>Jonah looks carefully at his notebook again, paying attention to the financial statements and records he's printed out for reference.

"Then I started to look a little deeper. I found multiple instances of fake registrations, shell companies and holding companies involving pharmacies, genetics labs and biological testing facilities. Privately owned and supposedly doing government contracting."

>Phoebe blinks from her end of the line, speaking to Jonah on the phone as she says:

"Cross referenced? They all had the same origination point? Same digital fingerprint I'm guessing?"

>Jonah responds on the line as well.

"Yeah. More or less. I had to make a few inquiries for the older registrations, but they checked out. I won't be able to go any deeper than surface level registrations, since I'm trying to keep a low profile with these inquiries."

>Jonah then takes out another notebook and begins carefully marking the address book lines he found through his investigations.

"Thankfully, I've been able to trace them to buildings registered in the Core cities. 2 in Paradise City. 1 in Utopia City. 5 in Sanctuary City. 3 in Salvation City. And 1 here in Haven City."

>Putting the notebook down, he then says:

"I'll let you and Aiden know when I'm off work for the day. I had to call in a few favors with the logistics and technical data mappers I know, but they were able to piece together the various financial transactions. If you want my guess? They're the surface level labs that where Meta-Human research was done, before the Government passed laws that made it off-limits without direct authorization from the MRD."

>Phoebe then says on the other side of the line:

"Which explains why they match up with the data taken by Aiden. They scrubbed the public databases of the registration information, business incorporation papers and all mergers and acquisitions involving early Meta-Gene research. They didn't want people to make the association between what those companies were doing, and what Chiral's doing now."

>Phoebe's eyes then narrow behind her sunglasses as she says:

"…..Which means they know what Chiral's after, and how he relates to those shell companies."

>Jonah sighs on his end of the phone line, still doing his work at the same time.

"Possibly. We don't have any conclusive evidence to make a statement one way or another. The best we can say is that the MRD are likely aware of information that could be connected to Chiral."

>Jonah then looks down at the ring on his finger, a simple gold and red ring with a lightning bolt symbol on the face plate. It briefly arcs with a small amount of gold electricity as he continues.

"It's very possible that they may be just as confused as we are - hiding information to avoid creating a moral panic over experimentation methods in the past. Either way, I'll have to investigate myself."

>Jonah then begins typing at his keyboard, opening up a terminal prompt as he begins parsing through the scanned financial data that he has stored on his computer.

"I'll transmit the info to you and Aiden using the backend network connection. That should help. I know Aiden's got his hands full with the investigations in Sanctuary City right now."

>Sighing herself, Phoebe then says:

"Alright Jonah. Stay safe, and I'll see you soon little brother. Love you."

>Jonah then says, slightly annoyed:

"Phoebe we're twins."

>Phoebe then says:

"I know, little brother. Love you, and catch you later."

>Phoebe then hangs up the phone, sighing again.

>Back in Haven City, Jonah hangs up the phone as well then adjusts his glasses. He then also checks the time.

"Almost lunch time. I can take a half-day. Work's ahead of schedule anyways there."

>Looking at the TV, Jonah then sees a report of criminals attacking the nearby waterfront area - attempting to hijack a ship full of valuable resources from a trade and shipping company.

"Just what I needed. Well, I can stop them on the way to the registered building used by the shell company."

>In that moment, a surge of bright golden lightning begins to cover Jonah, as he then instantaneously moves back to the door of his office, turns around, and then runs towards the edge of his office. Right as he reaches the walls, he focuses and begins phasing through the glass leaping into mid-air - and right onto a nearby wall.

{"It's been a while since I've done that. Good thing I had a year to practice!"}

>As the surge of golden lightning runs up the wall, Jonah taps the side of the ring on his finger - which glows in reaction to the lightning. A gold and red suit then ejects from the ring as Jonah moves at superhuman speeds - fitting into the costume.

{"And stuck the landing too."}

>Flipping into the air, Jonah's medium length brunette hair whips around in the cool afternoon air - unaffected by the rain as he lands on the rooftop. Now in his attire as Scalar, he finds his footing and rises to his feet, red lenses covering his eyes as he dusts himself off.

{"First thing's first, the waterfront area."}

>Scalar then immediately rushes off in a flash of golden lightning, racing across the rooftops of the city with hypersonic speeds and pinpoint precision movement. As he maneuvers across tens of miles in seconds, he soon reaches his destination.

>Location: Haven City - Industrial Zone

>A slight thud sound emanates from around the corner of a large derelict building - situated in the center of the Industrial Junkyard Zone of the city. Littered with empty, broken down cars and other vehicles, the zone is surrounded my decades old mechanical junk and scrap pieces.

{"They really should find some time to set up a recycling plant here. Lot of valuable metal going to waste."}

>Scalar thinks to himself as he lands on the ground, the source of the aforementioned thud. He then narrows the corner, keeping track of the address in his mind.

{"This seems to be the right street. If I were some clandestine base of operations, hiding in the middle of a junkyard, where would I mark an entry point?"}

>Looking around, Scalar makes a note of the absence of people in the area - a secondary result of the District's inactivity.

{"Right. The back."}

>In another flash of golden lightning, Scalar effortlessly covers dozens of meters, converging on the derelict building and rounding the corner to the back entrance.

"……Here goes nothing-"

>As he opens the door knob, his senses instinctively go on heightened alert.

{"What the-"}

>His vision narrows as he begins to view a bright, pulsating light from behind the door. The light is red, and blinking rapidly as he sees it.

{"Uh oh. Knew it."}

>Immediately moving backwards as the first flashes of orange light reach the peripheral vision of his eyes - Scalar generates more golden lightning around his body. Arcing with supernatural power, he quickly vaults backwards, pivoting on his hands as he flips into the air.

>The force of the explosion isn't apparent to Scalar, with the energy field that surrounds him negating most of the effects. However, he does react to the conflagration of fire with a sense of immediacy and urgency as he lands.

>Still moving in bullet time, watching as the explosion continues its relatively slow expansion from the building, he thinks to himself:

{"Booby trapped. I need to find that information, ASAP now. Before the fire destroys it.'}

>With the fire raging around the building, in the middle of an explosion, Scalar plants his feet.

{"3….2….1…..Go!"}

>Then rushes into the fire. Immediately, he sweeps the concentrated fire aside with a swipe of his hand - the sheer speed of his movements displacing the air immediately. Moving past the immolated door and into the building, he quickly takes note of his environment.

>Dilapidated walls and doors surround the building's interior as Scalar rushes forward, analyzing the information in front of him. Newspapers dated to the late 1990s, a series of small vials with no fluids stored - various different laboratory and chemical tools as well. However, not the evidence he needs.

{"Right. This isn't the laboratory itself. I'll need to find a way below, since this entire building is likely a pretext."}

>After a few relative minutes of searching, Scalar finds a mechanical latch underneath a rug in the back office. Thinking to himself, he then says:

{"It was the late 90s, I suppose."}

>Then he moves through the metallic hatch, replacing the rug as he closes the hatch and moves down into the subterranean areas below the building.

>Location: Haven City - Subterranean Base

>Landing in a sewer network, Scalar slowly rises to his feet, allowing time to pass normally for him again. Immediately, he can hear the force of the explosion above - deducing that the entire building has been destroyed.

"….Well it's a good thing I put the rug back on before I went down here."

>Considering his next move, Scalar then begins slowly walking through the sewer network. After a few more minutes, he comes across a metallic door with a series of electromagnetic scanning interfaces, circuit nodes and cameras. Hiding behind the corner before the turn, he takes note of the cameras, thinking:

{"Those cameras are online? I knew it. Someone is using these shell companies as laboratories for experimentation!"}

>Flicking his fingers, Scalar says under his breath:

"Let's see if all that training with Speedrunner paid off."

>He then quickly moves his hand out from behind the cover - aiming his fingers at the cameras on the wall. Then with a flicking motion carrying the momentum of his arm movement, he generates a set of lightning surges from his arm - and blasts the cameras with his supernatural lightning - vaporizing them and frying the systems of the door.

"That should do it."

>Then, the door lights blink red, stating:

"ERROR. SURVEILLANCE INTEGRITY COMPROMISED. PERFORMING AUXILIARY LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES."

>Shaking his head, Scalar then replies:

"Well, I can try a different approach instead."

>Rounding the corner with his whole body this time, Scalar then runs towards the door, directly in the path of the obstruction. While he does so, he focuses his body and mind - allowing his body to begin vibrating slowly but carefully.

>The solid appearance of his body then begins to briefly fade away rapidly as transparency takes hold. Then Scalar passes through the door harmlessly and without effort.

>Skidding to a halt inside of the room, Scalar then quickly turns around, catching in the important details.

>The room he's phased into is very large, well lit, albeit dim in radiance. Long stretches of benches and tables lay out in a grid like fashion across the room. There are similar circuit patterns to the door's circuitry as well.

{"Might be a system interface network. This place seems to have been built a long time ago, so I could image more baseline wiring work was done."}

>Scalar then begins quickly jogging through the area, finding stacks of paper around the tables and benches. Decades old construction equipment is also littered around the room as he walks through it.

{"Probably last minute touches, remodeling to reinforce the walls. But why were the cameras still active?"}

>Scalar then feels his hair stand up slightly behind the skin of his costume and undershirt. As his eyes begin to glow with a red and gold light behind his mask lenses, he then slowly looks upward - seeing something behind a wall.

"…..You know I can see the camera right? Whoever you are."

>Silence for a moment, until a voice then laughs over an intercom network. Just from the tone and cadence of the laugh, Scalar can tell that the voice belongs to a young man, roughly around his early 20s like him.

"I was wondering what had just triggered the self-destruct mechanism. And to think it would be a speedster such as yourself."

>Focusing his attention on the door at the edge of the room, Scalar begins walking as he thinks to himself:

{"Well that confirms it. Perpetrator's around my age. Likely a megalomaniac given the evil laugh. But I'll have to keep him talking - to make sure he doesn't pull anything from wherever he is."}

"I'm more interested in you. What sort of person rigs an abandoned building to explode with the press of a door knob?"

>The voice gives an amused "hmph" noise before responding:

"What sort of vigilante suddenly decides to visit an abandoned building in the middle of the day?"

>Closing his eyes, Scalar sighs to himself, thinking:

{"Walked right into that one J. Try a different approach."}

>Out loud, as Scalar slowly continues to walk towards the door at the end of the room, he keeps track of the cameras that he can sense behind the walls - the electrokinetic nature of his powers serving as a sixth sense to the power being wired to the cameras.

>He then states:

"I know it's you Chiral. All the reports say the same thing. Meta-Humans captured, experimented on and released as either failed gene transplants, or turned into living weapons."

>The voice then begins laughing hysterically, deafening the room for a moment. Then silence passes before the voice responds:

"Done your homework haven't you, Scalar? Well now you've piqued my interest. I'll let you find the surprise I've left for you in the other room."

>Skeptical, Scalar then reaches the door and opens it with a mechanical switch on the side wall. As the metallic latches unwind and pull themselves back - Scalar's eyes widen as he says:

"….Oh no."

>On the other side of the door, is a large room - full of empty capsules. A clear and translucent substance appears moving around inside of the capsules. All of the capsules are empty, except for one in the very back. As Scalar walks to the back of the room and finds the capsule in place - he narrows his eye lenses on the label description, which reads:

["BIOENGINEERING REPLICANT A - CHAMPION: DESIGNATE ALEPH"]

{"Aleph? As in the letter? What is this?"}

>The figure inside of the Aleph capsule is a tall, muscular man with brown hair. The man is wearing a simple costume consisting of a tightly weaved synthetic dark blue material, a golden belt and a bright golden cape. The man's eyes are closed as well, and is breathing through an oxygen apparatus.

>The voice from the intercom appears again, speaking:

"A friend of mine was always very paranoid you see. He had the impression that he had to come up with some contingency, in case I ever went against 'conventional standards of operation' in my line of work."

>As Scalar moves to the side to examine the capsule and the figure inside, the voice continues speaking:

"He was always more concerned with the worst case scenario. What if? What if the Meta-Humans ever lost their 'standard of operation'? What if he couldn't trust them anymore? Any of them? Even his dear, dear friend?"

>Immediately, the man's eyes open inside of the capsule, looking around before turning his attention towards Scalar to the side.

>A green light appears around the capsule, along with a loud electronic noise - signaling a function change in the capsule's systems operation.

"Uh oh."

>Scalar says, as the figure then begins punching the capsule with slow but repeated strikes. While this happens, the voice continues speaking from the intercom systems.

"So this is what he constructed. A metaphorical edifice of his beliefs. The first and last means against the 'Meta-Human threat' as he called it."

>Scalar looks up at the intercom for a moment, saying:

"Then your friend is the one who registered the building in his name. Meaning you're just using his old facilities! Who is he?!"

>The voice laughs again as the punches from the man grow stronger and more forceful - beginning to generate shockwaves of force that rupture the air around the room.

"If you figure out his identity, then you figure out my own, in all likelihood. I obviously can't have that, so I'll bid you farewell, speedster."

>The voice then speaks, with an amused tone of voice:

"If Aleph doesn't finish you off, the cavern system will. I've started the self-destruct sequence to the laboratory. The resulting pressurization will rupture the natural cave formations under the city, enough to cause a flooding effect. Assuming the explosion doesn't destroy you, and Champion Aleph here doesn't either - then the water will deal with you."

>With one last show of force, Aleph punches the capsule containing him, causing it to shatter into a hundred individual pieces - with the substance spilling out into a miniature surge as well. As Champion Aleph rises to his feet, his eyes begin glowing gold as the voice states:

"Enjoy the cumulative work of my once best friend. It's the same courtesy he showed me - before he attempted to kill me for my work."

>The voice then goes, as Aleph begins shouting with immense force, causing the entire room to rupture to the sides - the walls cracking. Scalar's supernatural physique and physics bending abilities allow him to withstand the majority of the concussive force, but he's still staggered backwards somewhat.

"Jesus….that's a lot of force-"

>Aleph then rushes towards Scalar, raising his fist back for a punch - only to miss as Scalar quickly moves to the side, effortlessly evading the attack. Taken aback, he then shouts:

"Listen to me! I'm not sure what's happened to you, but I'm not your enemy! I'm not here to fight you!"

>Still shouting, Aleph then blasts energy beams of golden light from his eyes, completely destroying the capsules in front of Scalar - as he vaults to the left, evading the attack entirely.

{"Concussive beams? Interesting. His power set reminds me of…."}

>Blinking wildly behind his mask, Scalar then says out loud:

"Energon? You have the same energy conversion abilities that he does?"

>The figure is confused for a moment before grunting, turning to lunge at Scalar again. Narrowly missing his target, Aleph watches as his fist crashes into the ground below, completely shattering the panel and the flooring.

"Hey! As I said, I'm not your enemy!"

>Emergency red lights then begin to flare, with a self-destruct warning being issued by the same computerized voice as before.

"SELF DESTRUCT SYSTEM REMOTELY INITIALIZED. PLEASE EVACUATE THE PREMISES."

{"Great. Now to take this out of here."}

>Generating bright golden lightning again, Scalar then begins moving at a rapid speed, creating after-images in his wake that move in brief static displays of motion.

>Grunting again in confusion, Aleph looks around to see dozens of these after-images surrounding him in the room. Before he can react, he then hears a loud sonic boom - powerful enough to stagger him briefly.

>Stunned, the man then stares upward at the actual Scalar. As his hands remain outstretched, he then says:

"If that doesn't get your attention then….."

>Shouting loudly again, Aleph then rushes towards Scalar - as the latter then begins running out of the laboratory. The emergency shutdown protocols have locked the main blast doors shut - including the exit doors.

{'Likely Chiral's doing there."}

>Concentrating again, Scalar vibrates his body - harmlessly phasing through the blast doors as he reaches the outside entrance to the laboratory. In his hands he carries a set of papers and documents that he's neatly folded up into his costume's belt.

{"Couldn't get everything, but I got enough."}

>Looking behind him, Scalar then sees Aleph effortlessly burst through the blast doors - tearing them apart as he shouts. Now flying directly towards Scalar again, he fires more golden energy beams from his eyes with precision aim.

>Scalar immediately begins moving, rushing through the sewers with golden lightning tracing around his body. As he feels stronger and stronger vibrational forces and shockwaves from underground, he begins to see water pouring into the sewers. As the water level rises, it becomes harder for him to maintain his footing as he continues running down the hallways.

{"This isn't good. I'm going to run out of ground soon enough. I can also feel the explosions coming. The chain reaction is starting all around the area."}

>As Aleph continues to chase Scalar around the underground caverns, he becomes more and more agitated. As he expends more of his energy in the form of eye beams, bis body begins twitching and convulsing at a greater rate.

>Noticing this, Scalar then thinks to himself:

{"He's getting tired. Weaker. If he's a replicant, then there has to be a reason why he was placed here all this time."}

>Eyes widening behind his lenses, Scalar then thinks:

{"Of course! He's an unstable clone! That would explain the empty vats, and why he's still there! He's the prototype! Which means…."}

>A dark cloud hangs over Scalar's face as his expression sours - still focusing on outpacing Aleph.

{"……There are more stable clones of Aleph out there. Dozens of them by my count. That's not good. But I have to get out of here first."}

>As Scalar rounds the next corner in the caverns, he begins running up the side of the wall - avoiding Aleph's concussive energy blasts. He then runs up the ceiling of the narrow wall, in order to further avoid damage from the attacks.

{"He's too deranged to think clearly. That might be a side effect of the cloning process. I wish I could save him, but I've got to get this information to the surface."}

>Turning the next corner, Scalar turns around, causing Aleph to rush towards him, shouting in anger still. Scalar then assumes a defensive position, thinking to himself:

{"I'm sorry that your existence was defined by this - being used as a weapon. A tool for someone else's benefit. No one should ever be reduced to that."}

>Aleph then closes the distance rapidly, 30 meters away from Scalar….20 meters…….10 meters…..

{"And I will find the man who did this, made you and robbed you of a future. I can promise you that."}

>…..Nearly 1 meter……

{'Goodbye Aleph. I just met you, and I already know you're another one of Chiral's victims. Like so many more people."}

>Scalar then turns intangible everywhere but the soles of his boots, causing Aleph to pass through him. Aleph is confused for a second until he realizes what he's flying into.

>As Aleph begins shouting once again, there's no time for him to course correct his movements - as he flies directly into the backup power generator of the laboratory facility - on the opposite side of the front door entrance. The resulting explosion is powerful enough to vaporize Aleph's body entirely - due to the use of his powers expending his energy-based durability field.

>Scalar then focuses all of his energy into his feet, looking upwards as he generates a large surge of golden lightning. Jumping into the air with substantial force, he then phases through the ceiling, ending up on the surface of Haven City once again after about five seconds.

>Landing on the ground, roughly a quarter mile from the wreckage of the burning building - Scalar groans slightly as he sits upward. Taking in the visuals of the bright sky, he then sees MRD hovercraft in the distance. Recognizing that the MRD are now investigation the scene, he then stands up and pulls the folded notes from his pocket.

"At least I have this."

>Unfolding the notes, Scalar then reads them briefly, skimming over the important details. His eyes widen behind his lenses again as he states:

"….What exactly is 'Eukaryota'? Is that the name of the organization that handled the laboratory?"

>Sighing, Scalar then looks around - moving to view the Archeon Incorporated tower in the distance.

"Might as well report back to Mosaic and Hyperia. I'm going to need their help for this one - since Chiral's probably picked me as priority one, once he's learned that I survived the encounter."

>Confused, Scalar then places the notes back in his belt, plants his feet on the ground - then generates a surge of golden lightning as he rushes off into the city.

>Location: Sanctuary City - The Tessellation

>Mosaic's underground hideout, situated underneath the Archeon Incorporated tower in Sanctuary City, is full of equipment and gear used by the aforementioned masked vigilante. Entire workbenches of electronic equipment, wires and other information is situated at the center platform of the hideout.

>A large aerial vehicle with black armor plating and red accents hovers gently in the middle of the lower garage area. The vehicle is the Aurora, Mosaic's personal air transport. On the other side of the garage area is the armored tank vehicle - the Manifold.

>There are various magnetic pole harnesses that allow easy transportation from one area of the hideout to another. As Scalar moves up one of the pole transport mechanisms, he calls out above:

"And I saw the Champion clone vaporize with my own eyes. I've got the feed to prove it too with my lenses."

>As Scalar jumps off of the pole harness and lands on the ground near a large supercomputer and screen platform.

>Hyperia leans against the wall, looking over at Mosaic at the seat. Her arms are crossed with a sour expression on her face as Mosaic keeps typing.

"You know I hate coming here. The sea keeps messing up my hair, Aiden."

>Mosaic, his full mask on, sits at the chair of the supercomputer and terminal, still typing away at the keyboard interface.

"I'm aware Phoebe, but it's the most secure location we have. At least I hope it still is."

>Turning his masked face to look at Scalar, he then says:

"Jonah should be too fast for Chiral to track him. Orion still has his psychic signature memorized as well, so that should help us avoid any unnecessary surprises."

>Looking back at the computer, Mosaic then analyzes the papers that Scalar had dropped off for him an hour prior.

"I've cross referenced most of the names on the list you gave me Jonah. As expected, it's the same names we found on public records for the owners of the Meta-Gene research companies."

>Scalar walks up to Mosaic, on the opposite side as Hyperia - looking up at the screen and the names listed.

"The same companies that were dissolved after the initial Meta-Gene experimentation reports came out?"

>Mosaic nods and continues:

"What caught my attention though, was the final name on the list. The 11 names you gave me seem to correspond with the names of executives at biological research companies. Said companies seem to have a lot of overlap with rumors of illegal experimentation."

>Hyperia then leans her head forward, looking at Mosaic again as she states:

"….You think they're part of Eukaryota, don't you?"

>Mosaic makes a gesture with his right hand, stating:

"…..Allegedly done by this 'Eukaryota' organization. It adds up, and matches the descriptions from the rumors near perfectly."

>Scalar then says:

"But what about the 11 names? Why bring them up?"

>Mosaic responds:

"Because there are 12 names on the list, and the 12th name is redacted on the printed notes. I can't find any instances of a 12th name in the list of names I mentioned above. Meaning the 12th and final person is scrubbed from the public database."

>Hyperia then moves off of the wall and walks towards Mosaic and Scalar, stating:

"….Meaning you think the MRD knows who it is."

>Mosaic nods and looks up at the screen and the names on the list on the large monitor screen carefully.

"They know who it is, and they've gone to great lengths to keep their identity a secret. It's likely the identity of the 'dear friend' that Chiral mentioned to you, Scalar. The one who betrayed him."

>Scalar then says:

"Then we have no choice. We've got to investigate the MRD. See what they know. It's the only way that we'll figure out who Chiral wants revenge on, and what connection they have to him, and the Meta-Gene experimentation."

>Mosaic nods and stands up from his seat confidently.

"You're right. So that means we need to learn more about the MRD itself. Hiyuki's analyzing the data I sent her - but we'll have to run interference on MRD operations in order to figure out more on our own."

>Hyperia raises her eyebrow, stating:

"You? Being the criminal? Really not what I'd expect from you Aiden. Given the circumstances."

>Mosaic then crosses his arms, saying:

"We don't really have a choice. We need to stop Chiral before he makes another move, and before more innocent people are hurt by his plans."
