"….There, that should do it."

>Jay finishes up the last modifications to the machinery inside of the Archeon Hangar Bay area. As he places the last metallic plate back onto the side of the battery pack - he takes a step back to admire his work.

"….Not bad. Faster than expected too."

>The energy generator, a prototype of a next generation Archeon-based design, stands at around 10 feet tall, with large electronic circuitry components and tubing interlocking between different switches and gateway elements. After taking a moment to admire his handiwork, Jay then feels his phone buzzing inside of his jacket.

"……."

>Taking it out, he sees a text message from Mariah, asking him if he's available to talk. As he's about to give a reply, he then hears a voice call out from behind him.

"Hey, Blackstone! Boss wants to see you!"

>An Archeon engineer shouts the message from the other side of the hangar bay area, causing Jay to quickly put his phone away after texting a short message to Mariah. Then he hurriedly rushes over towards the location of his boss, Amber.

"Sorry about that boss! I was just finishing up the plating of the new prototype engine design-"

>Amber holds out her gloved hand, prompting Jay to stop talking. He does so, promptly.

"This isn't about that. I just got word from Aiden that he wants to send representatives to the upcoming science expo at Sanctuary City's Technical Research Center next week. Mainly, representatives of the applied engineering and advanced robotics division - i.e., our division."

>Eyes widening in surprise for a moment, Jay then removes his look of bewilderment from his face, before stating:

"Wait, really?! Us? Why isn't he going himself? No offense, but we're not really business types."

>Amber scoffs as she places her gloved hands on her hips, an irritated expression slowly forming on her face.

"Because he said so, and he's my boss. As much as I despise that fact, a directive is still a directive. So we're going to the expo in a few days. Just act normal and don't mess this up for me, alright?"

>Jay nods slowly as he stammers out a response.

"R-Right. I'll behave accordingly, Ms. Spark."

>Satisfied, Amber turns around and begins to leave, walking away as she finger salutes to Jay from behind with her hand.

"Don't worry Jay. Just act normal, like I said, and you'll be fine."

>As Amber leaves, Jay is left alone in his thoughts, just as his lunch break begins.

"………."

>Location: Sanctuary City - Downtown Restaurant
>Time: 12:20 PM

>As Jay is continuing to eat his food, Mariah sits across from him at the table - continuing to vent about her complicated day.

"….So then my friend from Seattle called me and asked if I had seen anything strange - because she mentioned seeing some kind of weird goo monster at night or something."

>Raising an eyebrow, Jay says:

"….I'm not sure of sentient jello is a Meta-Human power, Mariah."

>Irritated, Mariah flicks away the french fry in Jay's fingers - causing it to fly into the air and land in the middle of the table. She then continues ranting:

"I'm serious, Jay! She was scared out of her mind! Said it was some kind of black goo that looked somewhat humanoid! When it saw her, it turned and ran away like some deranged cheetah!"

>Still skeptical, Jay then says:

"I'm not really sure if that's something that…."

>Suddenly, a loud noise is then heard, as everyone in the restaurant turns to see an altercation occurring across the street - at the entrance of a bank.

"What in the…"

"Fuckin' criminals, I swear. Always givin' us Metas a bad name."

"Did she just phase through a wall? Metas can do that?!?!"

"Why is her skin green?!"

>More clamor appears to proliferate throughout the interior of the restaurant, as Jay turns to Mariah after seeing the scene. A young woman with long brown hair, blood red eyes and green skin - casually phases through the doors of a bank, laughing hysterically as she then looks back.

"Aww, that was way too easy! You twats make everything look simple!"

>Laughing, the woman then begins looking around - eyeing the restaurant in front of her as she then quickly flies towards it at superhuman speeds, phasing through the restaurant's walls effortlessly.

"Hey, any of you got some good food to eat? I'm starving!"

>A man immediately rushes towards the woman, attempting to punch her - only for the man's fist to phase through her face, along with the rest of his body.

"Booooooring."

>Yawning, the woman watches as the man phases through her - crashing into a table of prepared amenities and food. Laughing at the sight, she then says:

"Man, you're all dumb as hell! Didn't you see what I just did? Moron."

>Turning around, the woman begins scanning the area intently. She's wearing a black and red outfit with a black and red cloak, and seemingly has an emerald green complexion to her skin. The deep saturation of her green skin contrasts sharply with her ruby red eyes, giving a somewhat vibrant aesthetic to her appearance.

"….Any ideas?"

"No. Just stay still and let her do what she needs to."

"….Some hero you are, just standing by."

"Well, what am I supposed to do? Transform right here and right now? In front of everyone?"

>That last sentence causes the woman's ears to perk up. Her supernatural hearing serving as a passive form of data collection. However, the key word of transform is more than enough to command her full attention - as she immediately speeds over to Jay and Mariah in an instant.

>Startling them both, they barely register her appearance directly at their table - as she narrows her eyes at them.

"What was that you said?"

>Looking at Mariah for a moment, Jay's heart rate begins to rapidly increase. Nervousness fills his body as he looks at the woman standing before him. Her blank stare pierces through his eyes, causing him to slowly move backwards in fear.

"….I uh…Uh….."

>Mariah then moves, using her superhuman strength and speed in an attempt to blitz and rush the woman - but to no avail. The green skinned woman's strength and speed far exceed Mariah's own, immediately grabbing her by the throat and slamming her into the table, causing food to shatter and spill everywhere.

"Quiet! I wasn't talking to you, bitch."

>The rest of the denizens of the restaurant then flee in terror - taking their chance to rush out of the multiple exits, as only Jay, Mariah and the green skinned woman remain. Blood pours out from Mariah's mouth as she coughs up more of the bright red substance. Surprised by the sheer strength of the attack - Mariah can only watch as the green skinned woman slowly turns her attention back towards Jay.

"Well? What was it then, dork? What were you supposed to do?"

>Still completely silent and frozen in fear, Jay then looks over to see the bloodied form of Mariah. In that moment, his fear turns to anger and rage, as he then screams as he rushes towards the woman.

"Big mistake."

>Before he knows it, Jay feels his vision go blurry as he's slammed down into the ground. After this happens, Jay finally looks at the mechanistic watch on his wrist - the Index. The machine watch has a muted tone, as it pulsates with a soft blue light.

{"It's been like this all day! Damnit! The one day that finally I need you to do something, and you go into standby mode?! Fuck!"}

>The green skinned woman then senses something and turns around - only to see a giant table get slammed into her face. As she's slammed through the window of the restaurant, Mariah rushes over to Jay, helping him to his feet as she says:

"Come on! We need to go! Send a distress signal with that watch of yours! I don't know if the others have caught this on the news yet!"

>Jay, barely holding onto consciousness, gestures at the Index watch on his wrist and says:

"The stupid thing's been in standby mode the whole day! I would've done so already!"

>Blinking in surprise, Mariah then states incredulously:

"…..That was why you were hesitant to transform?! Because you couldn't?! Why didn't you tell me that earlier today?!?!"

>Mariah and Jay quickly move out of the restaurant and go towards a back alley - hiding behind some dumpsters. Knowing that their voices are giving them away, they instead keep quiet as they hide.

>Jay frantically taps the buttons on the side of the Index, as he's noticed something. The minute he sustained severe damage to his cranium, the Index light began to shift - from a soft sapphire blue, to a striking bright orange. Then, a voice calls out from the Index itself:

"Recalibration Mode Complete. Finalizing Parameters"

>His eyes widening, Jay then looks at Mariah as she whispers to him:

"….It was recalibrating the whole time?!"

>Jay then snaps back, stating in a whisper:

"How was I supposed to know that?!?!

>Suddenly, a bright orange light emanates from the Index - bright enough to envelop the entire alleyway, blinding anyone nearby. Instinctively, Jay and Mariah both close their eyes as the orange light subsides. Once the light has disappeared, Jay looks down to see a very different device attached to his left wrist.

"….It's changed appearance. I…wasn't aware that it could do that…."

>In that moment, however, a blur of speed appears in the alleyway and rockets itself into Jay - slamming him into a nearby building wall. With a hand wrapped around his throat, Jay watches as the green skinned woman smiles at him, with a somewhat psychotic flare to her expression.

"Gave away your little hiding spot by accident eh? Good. I like it more when you squirm and run away. Makes this more enjoyable."

>Mariah immediately fires webbing at the woman from her fingers - only for the woman to burn it away with beams of red flame, sent from her ruby red eyes. Shocked, Mariah then jumps at the woman again - only for the woman to casually fling her aside with her fingers, demonstrating telekinesis.

"Once again, you're boring me."

>Turning her attention back to Jay, she then finally notices the device on his wrist - a black and silver watch with an orange faceplate and dial of sorts. Curious, she looks at Jay and says:

"This is what you use to transform, isn't it?"

>Seeing the anger and frustration in Jay's eyes, the woman then says:

"Perfect. I'll try it out for myself once I'm done turning you into a corpse-"

>Suddenly, a transceiver device in the woman's ear begins to speak loudly - close enough for Jay to hear within earshot.

{"Spectra! Where are you?! Get the money and get the fuck out of here! MRD's gonna be on our tails in 5 minutes!"}

>Annoyed, Spectra groans as she rolls her eyes.

"Shut up and let me enjoy my detour. I've earned it."

>Turning her attention back towards Jay, she then reaches out for his watch, stating:

"Now, if you'll excuse me - I'm going to be taking that-"

>The instant that Spectra touches the Index however, it begins glowing and flashing rapidly. An orange light builds up within the device - as it rapidly scans an orange light onto Spectra, from the point of impact with it - her fingers.

"Wha-"

>Before Spectra can finish her statement, she's then blasted back by the force of a powerful explosion of orange light and energy - sending her flying up into the air.

>As Mariah comes to her senses once more, her healing factor kicks in. Cursing herself, she feels around for any potential holes or torn patches in her clothing, saying:

"If that bitch ruined my jacket, I'm burying her six feet-"

>Then noticing Jay as he grabs at his own throat - while gasping loudly for air, Mariah quickly rushes over towards him, frantic and worried.

"Jay?! Jay are you alright?!?!"

>Nodding quickly, Jay then places his hands down, removing them from his neck. As he quickly looks down at the newly transformed Index on his wrist, he then sees the glowing silhouette of a figure in a similar appearance to Spectra.

"Her name's Spectra apparently. Heard it over the comms. She's likely working with some other criminals in the city."

>Mariah looks down at the newly transformed Index and immediately asks the pertinent question.

"Is it ready to use now?!"

>Jay looks at Mariah for a moment, stating:

"Only one way to find out."

>He then quickly slams his hand down on the propped up dial - causing a massive surge of orange light to appear around his body. In an instant, he's then transformed into a somewhat taller humanoid man with green skin and red eyes - similar to Spectra.

"Huh. Well this is interesting…."

>Feeling his hands for a moment, Jay then looks at Mariah, saying:

"I think I've got this."

>Spectra rushes back - attempting to blitz Jay, only for him to immediately react, faster than even she could anticipate.

"What-"

>Before she can register the sight before her, Spectra feels a strong force connecting with her chin - sending her flying upwards into the sky.

"Fuck!!"

>Regaining her composure, she then scans the skies around her - completely empty besides her own figure.

"That appearance. He looked similar to me. But that's not possible - they're humans! He is human!"

>Suddenly, Spectra then feels a strong force connect with her jaw a second time, then a third and a fourth and a fifth time. She then feels herself getting hammered with invisible punches across her face - with strength that far exceeds her own.

"Shit! You did change! Didn't you?!?!"

>As Spectra is knocked backwards by the final invisible punch, Jay then makes his presence visible once more - hovering in the air a few meters away from Spectra.

"You're going to regret what you did."

>Wiping blood from her mouth, Spectra then laughs as she says:

"You may have copied my form - but you know nothing about my powers."

>In that moment, Spectra launches a psionic attack on Jay - which catches him off guard and causes him to scream in pain.

"GYARGH!"

>Taking her opportunity, Spectra blitzes Jay - flying them both at massively hypersonic speeds across Sanctuary City - where they crash land into the forests at the outskirts of the city.

"I only came to this shithole of a planet for some fun! But most of you are a bunch of gnats!"

>Spectra says, picking up Jay by his clothing and tossing him to the side - into a dozen trees.

"But now? I've got a new punching bag thanks to you! So maybe this trip was worth it after all!"

>Activating her beam vision, Spectra then fires off waves of continuous red blaster fire like a machine gun - rapidly incinerating entire swathes of the forest.

"Come on out, chicken! Unless you're too much of a little bitch to show yourself now?!"

>A few moments pass as the fire begins to spread rapidly across the forest areas of the city's outskirts. As the flames intensify, Spectra continues laughing hysterically - stating:

"Here I thought you were gonna be a challenge for me! Looks like I was wrong-"

>Suddenly, a large green hand extends from the ground below Spectra - grabbing her by the neck and throwing her backwards into the other side of the forest.

"Ack! There you are! Bastard!"

>Spectra screams as she's knocked deep into the forest. Jay then slowly phases the rest of his body out from underneath the ground - turning his attention to the large forest fires as he breathes in deep and blows out the fires immediately with a strong burst of wind.

"I suspected as much. Add superhuman aerial breath to the list."

>Spectra then rushes back at Jay - moving to punch him, only for Jay to block the attack with his own hand. As he catches her palm in his own, he then retaliates with a knee to Spectra's stomach - knocking the wind out of her as she staggers backwards.

"Ack! Fucking prick! I'm gonna flay you alive for that!"

>Spectra then rushes back quickly, phasing through Jay's body - in order to grab the back of his head and slam him into the ground. However, Jay instantaneously phases through the ground itself - reappearing right in front of Spectra just as she turns her face to look for him.

"Argh!"

>Spectra is then instantly uppercut into the air - as Jay grabs at her leg with his extended arm to slam her back down into the ground below. Due to the force of the uppercut, Spectra isn't able to react in time to avoid the ground slam attack.

"Ugh…."

>Spectra slowly struggles to sit up - only to see a flash of orange light appear before her. Now standing before Spectra, is another humanoid figure in black and blue battle armor. The figure then holds out their hands - firing off a series of black and blue amorphous liquid structures at Spectra. The liquid turns into solid restraints, as the figure in advanced armor kneels down before her.

"I'm going to kill you, bastard! I swear it!"

>Kneeling down and raising a hand down towards her forehead, Matrix then says:

"I doubt it. But I'm shutting you down, rather than taking the chance otherwise. Thanks for the new form, while you're still conscious."

>Confused, Spectra then shouts:

"What are you talking about-"

>Before she can react, Matrix's second transformation injects a continuous stream of nanomachines into Spectra's body - rapidly entering her head and pumping out strong sedatives directly into her bloodstream. As the effect immediately begins to take hold, Spectra's body feels drowsy and tired.

"Kill you…..Bastard. I'm gonna…gonna……kill……you….."

>Then after a few more seconds, Spectra is knocked out cold.

>In another bright flash of orange light, Matrix transforms back into his standard human form as Jay. Now taking a look at the glowing orange Index watch on his wrist, he then says to himself:

"Did it scan the genetic information in her body?"

>Looking down at Spectra's unconscious body, Jay says:

"…..It turned her genome into a template for a new transformation."

>Now looking back at the Index in shock, Jay then states:

"I need to ask the boss about this. But first, where do I even take her? I can't just leave her out in the open - she'll wreck havoc if I do."

>Thinking for a moment, Jay then sighs before he looks at the Index and says:

"No choice then."

>In another flash of bright orange light, Jay turns into a blue skinned humanoid being in a black and red jumpsuit with a prehensile tail. Another one of his unique transformations. Kneeling down to pick up Spectra with both arms, he then says to himself:

"I hope I know what I'm doing here."

>Then, he disappears with Spectra in a plume of smoke - leaving the forest area empty once more.

>Location: Sanctuary City - The Prism
>Time: 12:40 PM

"Look, I know this was extremely last minute, but I had no choice!"

>Matrix says as he walks around the underground subterranean base in his blue skinned form. His tail nervously wags around - demonstrating his anxiety.

"I get that, Jay. But you could've blown my cover. Yours too."

>Phantom says, as he continues walking down the steps of the large underground base structure. He's moving towards the holding cells, with Matrix walking right behind him.

"You said that she's not a Meta-Human?"

>Nodding his head, Matrix continues speaking, as he now flips onto nearby storage containers and other structures for perching. His tail continues to flap around erratically, signaling his nervousness.

"Yeah. The Index didn't detect any Meta-Gene signatures from her, when it recorded her sample DNA. I didn't even know it could do that!"

>Moving their way towards the cell where Spectra is held, both Phantom and Matrix watch as she remains sitting on her bed. As she stares up at the wall, she scowls to herself, adjusting her position with her pillow - leaning away from the room's door.

"Can she see us or hear us?"

>Phantom shakes his head, stating:

"Soundproof and EM spectrum proof. I also took the liberty of activating the psionic scrambling technology that Mosaic built into this place - before he handed it over to me. As long as she's in that room - it'll interfere with her brain's ability to activate her powers, sort of like how a dampener generator does this to Meta-Humans."

>Nodding, Matrix then says:

"So have you talked to her yet? Seen what she's after?"

>Phantom shakes his head, stating:

"No. Mainly because we're still on lunch break. I'm supposed to be getting ready for by research work at SCU, and you're supposed to be back at Archeon in 20 minutes, right?"

>Nodding, Matrix then sighs, stating:

"I don't feel great about locking her up in here, especially without any sort of heads up."

>Phantom nods, stating:

"I don't either, but after what she almost did to you? I'm not trusting her until she starts coming clean about her situation. If she's not a human being - then what is she, and where is she from?"

>Phantom then turns towards Matrix, as the later transforms back into his human form.

"You mentioned something about the Index having a transformation of its own, right?"

>Pointing at the black, silver and orange watch on Jay's arm, Phantom then says:

"I'm guessing that may have been why you were able to scan her body for her DNA signature."

>Looking down at the watch on his wrist, Jay realizes that it's changed its appearance yet again - now becoming a more sleek black and orange wristwatch with the same orange plating and symbol.

"When did….it wasn't like that when I first transformed!"

>Examining the device carefully but at a distance, Phantom then states:

"There's a good chance that the Index is more directly integrated into your physiology after that recalibration you mentioned. I'm assuming that's what the process meant. You were effectively just using it in sort of software based "safe mode", instead of the standard operating mode - from what I can gather."

>Looking down at the sleek new watch on his wrist, Jay then says:

"So now it's fully activated then? Is that what you're implying?"

>Nodding, Phantom then states:

"After that being escaped from your Index, the woman you mentioned - after that happened, I think the Index went into some sort of emergency recalibration mode, to ensure that wouldn't happen again. It was just delayed in the background, until it reached the end of the process."

>Jay then looks at the Index more intently, beginning to activate it as he cycles through orange holograms with his right hand on the dial.

"….Hence why I couldn't use it from the beginning of the day, up until my life was in danger. It must've sensed that through my vital signs and forcibly completed the recalibration process in response."

>Nodding, Phantom says:

"Mosaic could probably take a glance at the device and give you a better explanation - but you'll have to wait until the end of the day for that. In the meantime, it's better if you get back to Archeon before Amber gets annoyed that you're late."

>Quickly nodding, Jay turns to leave, only to hesitate as he stops himself - stating:

"Just one thing though, Damian."

>Phantom nods as he crosses his arms behind his cloak, stating:

"Yeah, what is it?"

>Hesitating, Jay looks down at the glowing orange light of the Index, saying:

"…..If Spectra is telling the truth, and she's not a human and she isn't from Earth?"

>Looking back at Spectra's cell behind Phantom, Jay then asks the pertinent question:

"….Where in God's name is she actually from then?"

>Both Jay and Phantom then slowly turn around to face Spectra's cell - each of them contemplating the logical conclusion of that question in different ways.

>Time: 5:30 PM

>After the end of the business day, Jay finds himself back underneath Archeon Incorporated - and inside of The Prism once more. As he sits at a workbench, he has his hand outstretched as Aiden continues twisting the circular plate disc of the Index.

"You said it recalibrated right? Bright flash of orange light, and then it altered its appearance?"

>Nodding slowly, Jay looks at the Index as Aiden continues carefully twisting the device's faceplate in a specific sequence. His fingers are moving at a rapid speed that Jay can barely discern with his eyes.

"Yeah. Is that good or….."

>Finishing the sequence implementation, Aiden then stands back, as the Index begins to glow with orange light - producing a large orange holographic display of Jay's own body. It begins cycling through random humanoid appearances - some of them being Jay's own transformations.

"Woah. That's a lot of forms there."

>Aiden then points at the holographic form of Jay, as a series of other alternate forms appear highlighted in a row beside it.

"The Index is a metamorphic alteration device. It can turn you into an enhanced version of whatever sentient being that you encounter - provided that they're standing still long enough for a scan."

>Raising an eyebrow, Jay looks at Aiden with an incredulous expression on his face, one of disbelief.

"Any sentient being? I thought the Index was a recombination device. Genetics focused."

>Aiden then moves forward, adjusting the Index face dial once more, in order to show another set of humanoid forms.

"That was the easy way to explain it to you, but the device is far more capable than that. It exploits quantum effects in order to recreate whatever phenomenon that it encounters - provided that it's something the Index itself can understand."

>Seeing Jay's confused expression, Aiden elaborates:

"It can't figure out magic, for example. So magic doesn't work on it."

>Nodding, Jay then pulls his arm back and begins examining the Index himself, stating:

"….Does it work on you then?"

>Aiden shakes his head, saying:

"No, but for reasons that I don't have time to get into. Let's just say that I'm familiar with the creator of the device."

>Jay then looks through the Index's transformation profiles once more, speaking as he does so:

"Well some of these I'm familiar with. There's the thermal energy one. The teleport one that I used earlier today. The nanomachine one also….."

>Then he gets to the transformation that he just acquired earlier today - the one based on Spectra.

"…..I still can't believe I met an actual alien - and she also tried to kill me. Great."

>Aiden gives a light scoff of amusement, as he walks over. Putting a hand on Jay's shoulder briefly, he says:

"Don't let it get to you. The job comes with all sorts of ups and downs. Many twists and turns - whether we like it or not. It comes with the territory."

>Nodding slowly, Jay watches as Aiden lifts his arm off of his shoulder and turns his attention back towards the cell-block display image on his large computer. A live feed of part of Spectra's holding cell can be seen, as she remains sitting in place on her bed - staring up at the ceiling.

"She's been like this for most of the day, from what I can tell. I'll go see what I can get out of her."

>Turning back towards Jay, Aiden then says:

"You should probably get some rest back at your home. I'm sure your new roommate's waiting for you."

>Realizing who Aiden is talking about, Jay sighs as he ruffles his hair, stating:

"I can barely keep track of her around the place. It's like she has infinite energy…….Actually wait, she probably does. Good point."

>Jay then leaves The Prism as Aiden turns around and begins to walk towards the holding cells of the underground base.

>Location: The Prism - Holding Cells

>As a figure approaches her, Spectra remains silent in her cell - unable to hear the figure's arrival due to the soundproofing. However after a few seconds, the door immediately opens as a figure in armored robes and an elaborate mask walks in.

"Who the hell are you?"

>Spectra asks, as she's confused and taken aback. Preparing for a fight, she quickly jumps out of the bed and readies her fists.

"Someone who's going to treat you differently, depending on your level of honesty."

>Mosaic replies, as he keeps his hands in his cloak's pockets.

"….Not like I have much of a choice, asshole."

>Sitting back down in her bed, she waves her hand dismissively, stating:

"Ask away."

>Mosaic then surprises her by asking a very specific question.

"So does Annihilator know that you're screwing up by not finding him the equipment that he needs?"

>Eyes widening in an instant, Spectra quickly backs away into a corner, stating:

"How?! H-How the fuck do you know about that?! You're not from-"

>Mosaic points at her, stating:

"No, I'm not. But you are - and your mind's an open book right now."

>Recognizing what's happening, Spectra then instinctively places her hands at the sides of her head, shouting:

"No…NO! Get out of my head damnit! He'll kill me if I return empty handed!"

>After pulling the necessary memories out of her mind, Mosaic then says:

"You're not going back - and he can't hurt you if you're here right? Since he can't travel to this dimension."

>Keeping his hands in his pockets, Mosaic walks closer to Spectra as she looks down at her hands - hanging her head down in shame.

"It's why you're here, isn't it? You wanted out of there - and this was the only way that he'd allow you to leave for any extended period of time."

>Nodding slowly, Spectra then whispers, stating:

"I can't go back. Not anymore."

>Crouching down on his knees - Mosaic meets Spectra at eye level as she looks away. He then says:

"I know you're in a state of panic and worry right now, Spectra, but you have to work with me here. I can protect you from him - but you've got to tell me everything. I only pushed towards your surface level thoughts out of respect - and I'd like for you to tell me the rest on your own."

>Spectra then slowly turns her head back to look at Mosaic - staring him in the eye with a quivering expression on her face. After a seeming eternity of silence, she then exhales loudly as she stammers a response:

"A-Alright, fine. I'll s-say everything that I k-know. B-But please promise me. Promise me that y-you'll keep me away from him!"

>Nodding, Mosaic states:

"You have my word."

>Location: The Prism
>Time: 7:30 PM

>As Phantom swings into the lower levels of The Prism - he extends out his cloak in order to glide gracefully towards the ground below. Once he lands on the ground, he turns the corner towards the large supercomputer - stating:

"Hey Mosaic, I'm back-"

>Stopping in his tracks, he then sees Mosaic sitting at the large supercomputer in a chair - with Spectra standing before him. Turning around, Spectra immediately gets defensive, stating:

"H-Hey! We had a misunderstanding! That's all!"

>Not buying it, Phantom immediately dispenses a small nanocapsule from his suit's gloved palm - watching as it expands out into a large black and red vibro disc blade. Winding back the vibro disc, Phantom aims it directly at Spectra as Mosaic states:

"Relax, Phantom. She's with me. I've worked things out with her."

>Surprised, Phantom looks at Spectra once more, before slowly retracting the vibro disc back into a nanite capsule and inserting it back into his suit's wrist bracers.

"So she's not the bad guy then?"

>Mosaic looks at Spectra for a moment, who looks away in embarrassment.

"That's for Jay to decide, not me. But we've got more important matters to handle. Look."

>Finishing up a set of keyboard typing strokes, Mosaic brings up a large data dossier of information - various news reports, embedded photographs and video clips of distorted regions of space around different parts of the United States.

"Spectra came out of one of these. They're dimensional fissures, and they've been popping up over the past few days."

>Phantom, still skeptical of Spectra, looks at her and says:

"So she's not with the mercs that were trying to steal jewelry today? Jay found an earpiece in her ear."

>Shaking his head, Mosaic continues as he speaks:

"Psionic masking. She mentally projected herself as a new human member of the team - because she was originally planning to use them for her job."

>Phantom gives Spectra the side eye once more as he says:

"….Which is?"

>Mosaic then interjects.

"Which was - to steal this."

>Bringing up another set of images - Phantom then sees a large industrial machine with a large spherical shell. Various cables and machine components form around the device, as a newspaper outlines the device.

"This is a dimensional resonance device, highly experimental. It's one of the long term projects of a Dr. Neil Robinson. He's one of the world's foremost experts in theoretical physics and applied quantum mechanics."

>Mosaic then pulls up the image of a tall man with a sturdy physique and brown hair - with some white streaks.

"Though I'm surprised that Spectra's boss even knew where to look - given that he hasn't been to this dimension before."

>Bringing up another image beside that of Neil Robinson, Mosaic watches as an attractive blonde woman in a suit, similar to Neil's own appears.

"This is his wife, Dr. Alice Robinson. She's a molecular biologist and licensed physician. From what I understand, they were both involved in an experiment that exposed them to extra-dimensional energies."

>Phantom crosses his arms as he states:

"Oh right, I remember reading about them in a scientific journal that mom had. They've got powers thanks to that experiment right?"

>Mosaic nods as he brings up more information in the form of newspaper articles, stating:

"They're Para-Humans, yes. But they also have Meta-Genes. I'm not sure if the energies altered their Meta-Human powers, but the fact remains that they're accomplished scientists and researchers. That may be the reason why they're a target for Spectra's boss."

>Nodding, Spectra then scowls lightly, cursing to herself as she says:

"That damned bastard wants them specifically. I don't know why, but he knows about them and wanted their machine."

>Mosaic looks at Spectra and asks:

"How long would you say that he's been this focused on acquiring their dimensional machine?"

>Spectra thinks about it for a few moments, stating:

"I don't know. Probably a few months now? My home dimension got destabilized by some sort of crisis - Annihilator would never clarify the specifics. But whatever it was? It was bad. Disastrous enough for him to try and do something about it."

>Phantom then asks Spectra the pertinent question:

"So why doesn't your boss, this Annihilator guy, just walk over here and do it himself?"

>Spectra shakes her head, stating:

"Believe me. He'd do it if he could. But his power is tied to our native dimension."

>Realization washes over Mosaic's own mind as he finally puts the pieces together.

"….You're from the Null Zone, aren't you? That would explain Annihilator's hesitance to come over here."

>Spectra blinks in surprise as she says:

"Y-Yes that's correct. You've been there before?!"

>She says, with a sense of incredulous shock in her eyes.

"Only once, and only for a brief moment. It was during an expedition with a friend of mine named Mechanicus. Apparently, he's never seen a place like it before, and neither had I."

>Slowly standing up, Mosaic then says:

"The Null Zone is a mass-inverted universe. Not anti-matter, just normal matter with its core properties altered. I'm not sure why that's the case, since I didn't stay long enough to study it - but I can already tell that it'll be a problem if your boss gets out."

>Cursing to himself, Phantom then mutters:

"Well this isn't good. We've gotta warn them! If they turn on their machine and it opens a gateway to the Null Zone, isn't that just gonna let this Annihilator guy swarm the planet with his forces?!"

>Nodding, Mosaic turns and walks away from the supercomputer, as Phantom and Spectra follow behind him.

"Wait, what about me?! I'm not sure where I fit in all of this now!"

>Spectra says, protesting in annoyance. Mosaic responds to her statement as he continues walking:

"You're gonna be our eyes and ears around the facility when the machine activates. If it backfires and causes a disruption in the form of some spatial warping event? Then you need to swoop in and get everyone to safety."

>Spectra blinks at Mosaic for a moment, before stating:

"What about him?"

>Pointing at Phantom, Spectra waits for Mosaic to respond, as he then says:

"He's with Jay and the others, they're going to be on point, watching the area. Knowing the superhuman mercs that you were working with - they're gonna attack the place even if you're gone, right?"

>Spectra nods slowly, the realization hitting her mind at that moment.

"….Shit, I forgot about that. Sorry."

>Mosaic holds out his hand in a dismissal gesture.

"Don't worry about it. That was just a logical conclusion based on the information you gave me. You would've come to the same conclusion anyways."

>Phantom then speaks up, asking:

"So what about you then? Are you going into the portal to find this Annihilator guy?"

>Nodding, Mosaic then says:

"Yeah, but I'm going to need help. I can't do this alone, and if the Null Zone is as dangerous as I remember it, I'm going to need help from someone who can actually scope out the place and ignore the hazardous energies there alongside me."

>Thinking for a moment, Mosaic then continues:

"Well, that and I'll need some help if Annihilator ultimately has to be stopped."

>Phantom then speaks up, stating:

"Well, who do you have in mind then? Omnius? Matrix?"

>Shaking his head, Mosaic then says:

"Neither. I need someone way more capable than them at this moment."

>Sighing, Mosaic then mutters to himself:

"I'm going to need Speedrunner's help."

>Spectra blinks and looks back between Mosaic and Phantom for a moment, before she then loudly coughs into her fist.

"Glad that's all settled and everything, but what about me?"

>Looking at Phantom for a moment, Mosaic then says:

"Do you really want to risk causing any more complications for yourself by just going now? Annihilator's going to brand you a traitor, based on how you've described him. If he sends anyone else here after you…."

>Eyes widening, Spectra then reflexively shivers as she responds in a barely audible voice:

"…..Yeah, noted. Thanks."

>Looking at Phantom and then Mosaic once more, Spectra states:

"….I'm just gonna stay here then. Lay low."

>Nodding, Mosaic then turns to Phantom and says:

"Before you ask, yes we're going to go see Speedrunner - but not tonight. We've got other matters to deal with right now."

>Nodding, Phantom then crosses his arms underneath his suit's cloak as he replies:

"Not too surprised at that, to be honest. I'm guessing it's the mercs?"

>Mosaic nods as he then says:

"That's right. We're going to have to deal with them first. At least the ones that are still in the city looking for Spectra. Once they're dealt with, they should be able to provide us more information about their future plans."

>After taking a moment to look back at Spectra, Mosaic then states:

"Do yourself a favor and don't touch anything. There's some furnished living quarters down the hallway to your left. The expected amenities will be there, so knock yourself out."

>Casually waving behind himself as he walks away, Mosaic then begins moving towards the elevator in the center of the platform - with Phantom quickly running up beside him.

"You really trust her to just stay here and not turn tail?"

>Mosaic replies with a rather succinct statement:

"I trust her to act in her best interests. Self-preservation's a powerful thing, Damian. Believe me - she's not going to take her chances."

>Mosaic and Phantom then enter the elevator, and ride the structure up towards the higher levels of the subterranean network.

"What the hell?! Where'd she go?!"

>After scouting the area surrounding the open forest plain - a man in an armored suit quickly flies down to the ground. A powerful jetpack is adorned on the man's back, as his helmet and lenses completely cover his face.

"Give it up you burnout, she's not here. No amount of frantic flying is going to change that."

>A woman in a sleek tactical combat suit slowly parts her black hair to the side - before kneeling down to inspect the footprints and tracks on the ground.

"She was in an altercation around here - given how far the forests of this city are from the actual downtown areas….I'd say she felt forced to fly here."

>Scowling, the armored man in the suit then adjusts the wiring of his jetpack as he mutters:

"Bah. Whatever. Which of the 'heroes' in this city can even take her on in a fight? That Omnius dude or whatever his name is? The Speedrunner chick? Mosaic?"

>Sighing, the woman takes the small earpiece comms device from her belt and holds it in her hand. As she examines the earpiece more closely, she then says:

"Spectra wouldn't just leave it here. Too risky, and it removes our only way of tracking her. Somebody took her, Pyre. This is already a disaster…if they've taken Spectra? Then we're screwed."

>Pyre then holds out his hands, firing off dual plasma lasers from the electronic wiring in his wrists. Cutting down a pair of trees rather quickly, Pyre then states:

"Relax, Maxima. You're worrying the fuck out over nothing. She probably just turned invisible and bailed - got out of the city already. The boss isn't gonna give a shit-"

>Immediately glaring at Pyre, Maxima stands back up as she says:

"Don't even try and give me that nonsense, Pyre. If we go back to Sophus empty handed? A reprimanding will be the least of our worries. Now shut up with your whining and help me investigate the area more closely."

>Maxima goes back to investigating the area around her - as Pyre begrudgingly agrees to help her.

>Location: Sanctuary City - Downtown
>Time: 8:10 PM

>A pair of Brigadiers are webbed to the side of a nearby billboard as Phantom finishes up the clean up work on the streets below. Weaving through the attacks of the final Brigadier standing, Phantom palm strikes the criminal in the face - with enough force to shatter the cartilage in their nose - causing them to stumble backwards and fall to the ground.

"GYARGH! FUCKING HELL DUDE!!!!"

>As the Brigadier screams in pain and holds his hands up to his bleeding nose, Phantom sighs as he adjusts his wrist - stating:

"Sorry. I thought you were a bit more durable than that."

>Firing a dart from his wrist - Phantom administers a morphine injection into the Brigadier's exposed arm, slowly causing him to stop feeling the sensation of pain. Now having handled the Brigadier situation, Phantom turns back to see Mosaic - who tosses a group of Brigadiers onto the ground before Phantom with telekinesis.

"There's the rest of them. Now for the info extraction."

>Kneeling down to one of the Brigadiers that's still conscious, Mosaic asks him outright:

"The mercs who were here earlier in the day. A little nanite told me that you made a deal with them back at South Central Avenue and Machine Drive. That old abandoned warehouse that you all seemingly live in."

>The Brigadier curses Mosaic out, shouting profanities at him as Mosaic then telekinetically flicks his finger - causing the Brigadier to feel pain around his ribcage.

"You feel that? Internal rupturing of your ribcage, right around a few important organs - may not be the best trade off for secrecy here. Do yourself a favor and do the right thing."

>Now slowly curling two of his fingers and his thumb into a ball - Mosaic increases the pressure, as the Brigadier screams loudly in pain.

"OK! OK! OK! I GIVE UP! SHIT, MAN!"

>As Mosaic looks at Phantom and eases up on the telekinetic pressure, the Brigadier slowly sits up as Mosaic remains kneeling beside him.

"….God damnit….Fucking hell…."

>Shaking off the sheer pain and panic of the situation, the Brigadier then immediately begins spilling the details.

"They call themselves the Haymakers or something dumb like that! We didn't call them or anything, they just showed up at our hideout yesterday! They made a deal with us to cause some chaos around the city or some basic shit like that - and they'd pay us! Gave us a good down payment too for good faith or whatever it's called."

>Phantom then walks over to the other side of the sitting Brigadier, stating:

"Where'd they say they'd be going after everything went south earlier?"

>The Brigadier thinks for a moment, before saying:

"They didn't tell us, but one of my guys stole one of their comms when they weren't lookin' at him. Said something about some chick named 'Spectra' at like 12:30. No idea why they were freakin' out, but they said somethin' about mobilizing and checkin' the outskirts of the city. That's all I know, I swear!"

>Looking back up at Phantom for a moment, Mosaic then states:

"Thanks. Appreciate it."

>Then with another flick of his finger, Mosaic exerts a precise amount of telekinetic force to the Brigadier's cranium, to immediately knock them unconscious - watching as he falls to the ground.

>Looking up at Phantom for a moment, Mosaic then says:

"We're in for a long night then. Get your bearings - we're going merc hunting."

>After a few more scouting trips, Mosaic and Phantom have cleared through more hidden Brigadier caches, destroying their hideouts and interrogating more of the criminal gang - looking for information about the mercenaries.

"Well, that's about everything then."

>Phantom says as he punches out the last remaining Brigadier - knocking him unconscious as he falls to the floor. Turning around towards Mosaic for a moment, Phantom then states:

"Though I did find something interesting. Here."

>Making a throwing motion with his hand, Phantom tosses a small phone towards Mosaic - the latter catching it effortlessly between two of his fingers.

"There's something attached to it, interesting."

>Flipping the phone between his fingers in an instant, Mosaic flicks open the connector on the back of the phone - flicking the phone itself back to Phantom at that moment. As Mosaic more carefully examines the connector device, he then notices a small insertion point - a narrow thin line.

"A signal encryption device? The manufacturing ID format looks familiar….."

>Thinking it through for a moment, Mosaic then analyzes the ID more clearly, before he then responds:

"DataDrive. Of course it's them."

>Phantom feels his eyes widen at the statement, his attention immediately causing him to perk up and turn his mask towards Mosaic, interjecting:

"The shadiest technology corp in the city had something to do with this? Weren't they the company that Arachne was hired to steal from?"

>Taking out his Quantum Tuner device, Mosaic uses it to scan the internals of the encryption device - getting the full internal structure and stored data. Afterwards, he then places the encryption device into a container on his belt - seemingly 'absorbing' the matter of the device into it in an instant.

"I didn't know your suit could do that."

>Phantom says, somewhat surprised and taken aback. Mosaic notices this and shakes his head in response.

"It's more magitek than tech - if that helps."

>Shrugging, Phantom then replies:

"Either way, going back to the main point - we've now got a hostile megacorporation entangled in this mess. They gave the Brigadiers an encrypted messaging line to someone - probably a partner group?"

>Mosaic thinks for a moment as he takes in all of the information that the Brigadiers have revealed to them over the past 30 minutes or so.

"….Could be that. Or possibly just a proxy group that used the local crime gangs of the city as easy bait. The Beetle guy you fought a few weeks ago did something similar I believe?"

>Realizing the similarities of the strategies, Phantom then assumes a thinking stance as he mulls over the possibility.

"I can't rule that out either, yeah. It's probably some combination of the two ideas then."

>Pointing at the downed and knocked out Brigadiers, Phantom elaborates:

"They're not smart enough to pull off any kind of coordinated assault. We know that much. So they were likely working on someone else's behalf. That's easy enough to put together."

>Mosaic then puts away his Quantum Tuner device as he then replies:

"Occam's Razor working in effect would tell us that DataDrive hired the mercenaries, and those mercenaries decided to use the Brigadiers for the usual distraction routine."

>Phantom then starts pacing back and forth, thinking intently about the situation:

"The only question left then is….why? What would DataDrive even gain from hiring mercenaries? Also how does that connect to Spectra? DataDrive shouldn't understand what she was after."

>Going silent for a moment, Phantom then immediately turns his head back towards Mosaic - as the latter states:

"Unless she herself told them, in exchange for some sort of compensation."

>Looking back at Phantom, Mosaic then sighs as he states:

"That's the risk with not breaking into people's minds, Damian. Like everything else, it's down to blind trust."

>Turning around to leave, Mosaic then says:

"And while I do put a lot of trust in people…"

>Stopping for a moment, Mosaic then slowly takes out a small square electronic device - stating:

"….It's not at the expense of caution."

>Phantom eyes the device closely before stating:

"The low frequency wave transceiver?"

>The vigilante mulls on the device's purpose for a moment, thinking back to what Mosaic said in the Prism - before scoffing slightly in amazement.

"….So much for the power of 'self-preservation' then. You deliberately got us out of there in order to bait her, didn't you?"

>Nodding slowly, Mosaic then taps the front of the electronic transceiver device - watching as it rapidly expands in its design, flipping open nano-metallic plates to reveal a more sophisticated red touchscreen blow the surface.

"Her entire story didn't add up for several reasons. Someone of her power doesn't need a mercenary group in order to complete a mission as simple as her purported own. Nor would she be safe for betraying her boss - if he really was that powerful."

>Phantom then walks over to Mosaic, taking a look at the mapped coordinates of the transceiver device.

"You bugged her with nanites didn't you?"

>Nodding, Mosaic then puts the transceiver away, as he has the location of where Spectra currently is.

"Naturally. It's why I put on the façade of being oblivious to her situation and unconditionally helpful. Made it easier for her to drop her guard down."

>Looking back at Phantom for a moment, Mosaic then says:

"She's likely been working with DataDrive the entire time - using her psionic powers to brainwash them and the mercenary group into aiding her."

>Phantom then begins thinking through the scenario, taking into account the unreliable narration of Spectra's previous statements.

"….She's not after the machine then. She could've easily taken that if that was her real goal. She's after-"

>Mosaic nods as he cuts him off, stating:

"She's after the Robinsons themselves. The cover story with the mission, the hiring of the mercenaries and her backstory with her boss? They're all part of a pretext to build up an army strong enough to capture those two scientists."

>Now thinking to himself, Mosaic then mutters:

"The only question left is why does Spectra want the Robinsons? Or rather, why does her boss want them?"

>Phantom turns towards Mosaic, saying:

"First thing's first - we need to stop Spectra before she blows our cover and reveals where the Prism is. Even if they can't reach it, she can still give them important details right?"

>Mosaic nods slowly as he puts his hand on Phantom's shoulder, stating:

"Hold on tight for this, it'll be disorienting for a moment."

>Then by placing two of his gloved fingers to his mask - Mosaic then instantly teleports both himself and Phantom away from the area.

>Location: Sanctuary City - DataDrive Safe Area
>Time: 8:42 PM

>Spectra stands over a large terminal screen in the middle of a warehouse structure - looking at the devices on the table near her. After taking everything that she reasonably could from The Prism - she continues talking to a figure on the screen, stating:

"I'm sure these are some kind of weapon. They could give us the edge we need in order to take down the Robinson scientists!"

>The figure on the other side of the conversation just groans in annoyance, as he parts away his long hair.

"I didn't agree to be taken out of MRD containment just to entertain your delusions of grandeur, Spectra. We had an arrangement - you provide me with information about Mosaic, and I provide you with the resources needed to maintain your cover."

>Spectra looks annoyed and blows a plume of air into her face - parting her long reddish-brown hair for a moment as the man continues speaking:

"…My connections at DataDrive have been thorough in their arrangements. They provided you with that nonsensical Haymaker group - more than capable to provide you with easy cover fire."

>Rolling her eyes in response, Spectra then says:

"Well that's just great, Mr. Hildebrandt - but I've got a teensie tiny little issue…."

>Immediately smashing a nearby pillar into rubble, Spectra then shouts:

"The God damned vigilantes ruined everything! That twat with the fancy watch stopped me from scoping out Mosaic and Omnius! The diversion you planned at the bank was useless anyways!"

>Now getting irritated at the exchange of words, Hildebrandt then says:

"I am not responsible for your incompetence, alien. Either you provide me something valuable enough to help me ascertain Mosaic's identity - or the deal is retracted. Those are my terms."

>Gritting her teeth, Spectra then says through gritted teeth:

"Yes, of course Mr. Hildebrandt. I'll see to it that you get you're rewards for cooperation-"

>In that moment, Mosaic and Phantom appear in the room - with Mosaic immediately pushing with his hand - generating a powerful telekinetic force that throws Spectra out of the room, and into a different room of the warehouse.

>Turning to face the image on the screen with Hildebrandt, Mosaic then says:

"Hey there Johnny. Miss me?"

>Immediately turning irate at the sight of his most hated enemy, Hildebrandt immediately goes on a berserker rage-induced rant.

"You sanctimonious, arrogant, good-for-nothing bastard! I'm going to turn your head into a trophy!"

>As Spectra returns, she flies at super speed towards Mosaic - who casually sidesteps the movement faster than even Spectra herself can respond to. Spectra in her haste then destroys the computer with her super speed flight, disconnecting the remote call with Hildebrandt.

"Wha-"

>She then feels herself crashing into the wall on the other side of the hangar bay area. As she falls to the ground and slowly looks back up, she sees the form of Mosaic standing right above her - holding the bag of stolen technology.

"Thanks for making this easier by carrying a bag."

>In an instant, Mosaic then transports the items back towards The Prism - with a different application of his teleportation technique.

"So, Spectra was it? Let's see just how truthful you're willing to be right now."

>At that moment, Spectra feels an energy net quickly blast all over her body - restraining her in place. The net, comprised of psionic dampening technology - causes her to fall to the ground. Phantom walks by past her, dusting his gloved hands off as he states:

"More or less what he said. But between you and me? I'd have been far worse towards you. The next time, I'll use the experimental psionic net."

>Now looking between Mosaic and Phantom, Spectra then curses to herself as she says:

"Fine, I'll tell you everything - the real way this time.

>Mosaic looks at Phantom for a second before turning his attention back towards Spectra, stating:

"This better be a good explanation, Spectra. Because now you're on thin ice. We gave you multiple chances to do the right thing. Don't keep pushing your luck."

>Mosaic says, crossing his arms confidently as Phantom puts his hands underneath his cloak - still crossing his arms.

"Yeah, it's in your best interests to help us out here - otherwise we'll leave you for the MRD."

>Mosaic and Phantom then wait for Spectra to speak, as she looks more visually conflicted and finally just breaks down.

"Alright! Fine! Fine! I'll tell you everything that I know happened. Just please get me out of this net first. It's draining my psychic powers, and I don't like the idea of losing them!"

>Looking at each other for a moment, Mosaic and Phantom then both reply:

"Yeah, let's give up our bargaining chip so that you can run away again."

"I for one don't appreciate the lack of good faith here. Try again."

>Groaning, Spectra then sighs as she states:

"…..Annihilator wants the Robinsons because he knows them. He's not from the Null Zone like I am."

>The revelation catches Mosaic's immediate interest as he kneels down on one leg - looking Spectra right in the eyes.

"He's human? Just like we are?"

>Spectra nods slowly as she grits her teeth, resigned to her situation as she continues to explain:

"He showed up on my home planet a few years ago in some kind of armored suit. The people in the Null Zone….we get our powers from these cosmic energy storms. They're sporadic and they crash down onto planets every few months."

>Phantom looks at Mosaic, stating:

"Can we trust her now? Or is this just another cover story?"

>Mosaic gestures to Phantom, indicating that he's willing to hear her out.

"So you and the rest of your people, I'll call you Zoners for brevity's sake. You all got your powers after being bombarded by cosmic energy. How does that relate to Annihilator?"

>Using his telekinesis to slowly rise Spectra onto her feet, he then uses his powers to rip apart the energy binding - allowing Spectra to move her arms and legs freely.

"….."

>Surprised by the gesture, Spectra looks up at Mosaic for a moment before she continues:

"That suit he was wearing. I'm not sure how, but it seemed to draw the cosmic storms towards him - like a lightning rod. He just kept getting bombarded and blasted by them, screaming in pain. But we all kept our distance."

>Looking away for a moment, Spectra then grits her teeth again as she exclaims:

"But then I couldn't take it anymore - so I rushed in, and tried to help him. Then I…"

>Phantom then speaks up in that moment:

"You yourself got bombarded by a surge of cosmic energy. Turned you into who you are now, I'm guessing?"

>Spectra gives another exasperated sigh.

"I was knocked out by the strike, and he kept on getting hit, over and over again. I can still hear his screams in my mind…."

>Mosaic looks over at Phantom as he gives his assessment, coming to what he feels is the most logical conclusion.

"It all makes sense now, assuming that she's telling the truth. The motive, the timing and the circumstances."

>Gesturing back towards Spectra, Mosaic states:

"Annihilator is someone who was sent into the Null Zone a few years ago, likely by accident. If his suit was able to absorb the ambient energies of the dimension - then it was likely built with that intention in mind."

>Understanding the broader implication, Phantom says:

"Which means he was likely part of some research project that had been studying this Null Zone place for a while. Either hypothetically through mathematics and physics research - or literally through direct observation."

>Thinking about it for a few more seconds, Phantom then has an epiphany.

"Of course! That's why he sent her here! After the Robinsons! They're building a newer version of their dimensional gateway technology right? Annihilator must've been part of the original team! The one that did that initial experiment!"

>Mosaic points to Phantom as he begins walking around the room, scanning it carefully.

"The experiment that gave them their powers. There were reports of casualties - but now I'm starting to suspect that they were transplants instead. Likely sent to the Null Zone. Then they got affected by the cosmic storms, and now…."

>Turning back to Spectra, Mosaic then says:

"We have who you call 'Annihilator' as the result of that. I'm going to assume that you were being half-truthful when you said that you didn't know how your world was 'destabilized'. It was him, wasn't it? His arrival."

>Her face darkening and her expression worsening in anger, Spectra then quietly says:

"Yeah. He made sure to pay back everyone who refused to help him, while he was suffering in pain."

>Phantom is also silent for a moment before he states:

"…So are you here because he took over your home dimension and forced you to act as a sleeper agent? Or are you here because you genuinely think that the Robinsons can help you stop him?"

>Turning her back on both Mosaic and Phantom, Spectra then says:

"Maybe it's one or the other. Maybe it's both. Or maybe it's neither reason. That's for you to say. All I know is that those scientists and their research is key towards-"

>Suddenly in that moment, an explosion can be heard from the wall at the edge of the hangar bay to the south. A group of figures quickly move in - recognizing Spectra.

"Spectra! There you are!"

"Where the hell were you-"

>Silent, the new figures realize who Spectra is standing with, and immediately assume combat stances.

"You wanna explain why you're talking to the enemy here?!"

>Maxima stands with her arms on her waist - as another figure stands beside her. A tall man with pale skin and blonde hair, blood red eyes and a pair of bright silver metal whips on his arms.

>Spectra looks surprised as she says:

"You and Recoil shouldn't be here, Maxima. I thought I ordered you both to go searching for information about the Robinsons-"

>Maxima cuts her off, stating:

"Yeah, we don't work for you. In case you forgot, we're on Hildebrandt's payroll."

>The larger man beside her, Recoil, remains entirely still - staring daggers at Spectra while his face remains in a permanent angry scowl. Maxima continues speaking at that point:

"Like the boss said, you didn't hold up your end of the bargain, so now you're of no use to him. Which means you're of no use to us either."

>Maxima then holds out her hand - immediately blasting a massive beam of energy at Spectra. She instinctively turns intangible to avoid the attack, as Maxima scoffs in response.

"I knew you'd chicken out at the last second. You could never take a hit."

>Angered, Spectra rushes towards Maxima at lightning speeds - punching her square in the face with enough force to stagger Recoil backwards. Although to her surprise, the attack doesn't even phase Maxima - who gives her an evil smile in response.

"That's….not supposed to happen."

>Maxima then slowly takes her hand and applies pressure on Spectra's wrist - causing her to scream in pain as she's slowly forced down onto her knees with a single pinching motion from Maxima.

"Did you even bother to figure out what my power is?"

>Spectra continues screaming in pain as she feels the bones in her arm and wrist break - thanks to Maxima making a simple twisting motion with her hand. Reeling from the pain, Spectra grabs her wrist with her other hand, as Maxima then says.

"I can tap into any energy source that I've touched - that includes whatever energy gave you your powers. I can only sense traces of it left inside of you, but that's more than enough for me."

>Maxima then punches Spectra in the face, faster than she can react - sending her spiraling backwards into the wall behind Mosaic and Phantom.

"I assume you're fine dealing with the tin man?"

>Nodding, Phantom says:

"More than happy to deal with the weaker one."

>Taking that confirmation in mind, Mosaic then immediately appears before Maxima - striking her in the chest with her palm; generating a level of force so immediately destructive that the air around them immediately ignites. The fire explosion is concentrated around her - blasting Maxima up into the air, and out of the building.

>As Mosaic flies into the sky after her, Recoil immediately expands his metallic whips, charging them with red energy as he fires volleys of kinetic force at Phantom.

"Is that just straight up concussive force? Awesome!"

>Casually weaving and dodging through the attacks, Phantom then jumps into the air and fires a pair of nanoweave reinforced wires at Recoil - ensnaring him as he grabs the wires and throws Recoil into the air.

"Those whips of yours seem pretty sturdy! But let's see how you handle blunt force!"

"No you don't understand! They're just the standard boots on the ground. The real problems are on their way!"

>As Spectra speaks, she then sees Recoil rushing back into the building - having slashed away the nanowire restraints placed on him by Phantom. His mind seeing nothing but red, Recoil then shouts as he unleashes a flurry of metallic whip slashes into the air - which produce dozens of red energy bursts, each being pure concussive force.

"Die! Both of you!"

>Recoil says as he continues piling on the slashes and energy projectile waves.

"Move!"

>Spectra says as she turns intangible, avoiding the attacks. Meanwhile, Phantom continues weaving his way through the different beam slashes with expert athleticism and coordinative skill. Between the weaving movements, Phantom fires a pair of miniature explosive darts from his wrists - blasting Recoil back out of the building once more.

>Recoil quickly regains his footing after being sent flying backwards - looking up only to see Phantom and Spectra rushing towards him.

"Damned traitor bitch!"

>Recoil shouts as he slashes at Spectra, but to no avail. The emerald skinned woman instead flies lower to the ground, before rising back up to deliver a swift uppercut to Recoil's chin.

"ARGH!"

>As Recoil is sent flying, Phantom grapples to him via a wire connecting on his chest. As he drags himself towards Recoil - he moves to the side, swinging off of Recoil's mass to avoid more whip attacks, before leaping higher into the air from his swing.

"Stay still you little bastard!"

>Recoil shouts in frustration, as Phantom swings and leaps up into the air - further above Recoil himself. Now looking down at his target from above, Phantom twists in the air, winding back his boot as he says:

"Get better at aiming instead."

>Then Phantom delivers a swift kick to the side of Recoil's face, shattering the sound barrier and sending Recoil flying down to the ground below - creating a shockwave while doing so.

>Phantom says, immediately cutting her off. He then points to her, saying:

"Far as I can tell, you're not that trustworthy, especially given how far you went to hurt them."

>Spectra looks away, silently, as Phantom continues speaking:

"But it's not up to me to judge the whole picture regarding you. That'll be for them and everyone else to decide. So do your best by making up for past actions."

>Irate at the disrespect that she's receiving, Maxima then shouts in anger as she - rushes forward. As she punches Mosaic in the face, the nearby air around them simply combusts into flames due to the sheer frictional pressure of the attack.

"Yeah that's fair. Let it all out - I can take it."

>Mosaic says, half amused and half genuine in his tone of voice. Maxima continues beating down on Mosaic, punching him with every bit of strength and speed that she has. The air above them begins to ignite with flames as she continues punching him - only for Mosaic to say:

"Feeling better?"

>Realizing that her attacks aren't even phasing Mosaic, Maxima then widens her eyes in a combination of unimaginable shock and genuine dread. Reflexively moving backwards, she then stares in horror as she recognizes the gap in power between them.

"…..No. I'm not. If anything, I feel terrified."

>Mosaic then looks at her and says:

"Good, I'd imagine that's how most of your victims felt."

>In an instant, Mosaic then grabs onto Maxima's face with his gloved palm - and begins rocketing down to the ground at a speed that Maxima can barely register in her brain. Before she knows it, she feels a massive surge of pain rushing through her body as she screams; the force of the ground impact having destroyed her back as she now lays in a crater.

>Standing up, Mosaic takes a moment to look down at the beaten and bruised form of Maxima, before stating:

"That feeling of helplessness and terror is how most regular people feel around superhumans. Consider this a warning to find a new area of employment. Preferably one that doesn't involve shaking down innocent people as a glorified thug. Because if you don't?"

>Leaning down to stare at her directly in her eyes, Mosaic then says:

"You'll wish this was worst pain that you've felt."

>Seeing Maxima's eyes widen in panic, she begins screaming for mercy as Mosaic stands up and hovers out of the crater.

>Seeing and hearing the entire altercation as it happens, Spectra remains stunned and scared herself - watching as Mosaic approaches her and says:

"We won't turn you over to the MRD under one condition. You cut ties with Hildebrandt and you work with us."

>Spectra nods quickly as Mosaic jabs a finger at her chest, stating:

"That means no maiming and no harming of innocent people. If you do anything like what you did to those two earlier today? Then just like Maxima, you're going to wish that you never came here."

>Lowering her gaze, Spectra then says:

"…Understood."

>Easing up for a moment, Mosaic then turns to Phantom, who states:

"Already sent the MRD a tip. They're on their way to collect these two."

>Looking back at Spectra, Mosaic then says:

"I know someone who can deal with Annihilator, in a way that won't even require contacting the Robinsons. Whether she's willing to do it or not is a different story entirely."

>Phantom, knowing who Mosaic is referring to, states:

"Are you sure you want to get her involved in this? She usually does her own thing around here."

>Looking back at Phantom, Mosaic replies:

"Believe me. The last thing I want to do is ask her for help with anything - but she's as smart as I am, if not smarter. Also much faster. If anyone can figure out a way to deal with Annihilator without harming innocent people? It's her."

>Looking around, Mosaic then says:

"Still, we need a proper plan first. Let's get out of here."

>Mosaic then places his hands on both Phantom and Spectra's shoulders, before using his transportation technique to instantaneously teleport them all away from the area.

>As Mosaic continues writing physics equations on the holographic board in front of him, he looks over his head at Spectra, asking her:

"He can also control light, I assume? Since you mentioned his electromagnetic powers."

>Nodding, Spectra sits on a nearby chair, watching as Mosaic continues writing entire pages' worth of equations on said holographic board.

"Yeah. I've seen him produce light beams before."

>Mosaic then asks in response:

"Any limit on the size of his light projection abilities? Speed? Intensity?"

>Spectra shakes her head, saying:

"None that I know of."

>Taking that into account, Mosaic continues to write more equations, factoring all of the questions into his calculations. After a few seconds, he's finished as he states:

"The mass inversion properties of the Null Zone lead to a disparity in the traditional mass-energy equivalence that normal matter has. Because of this, a disproportionate amount of energy can be produced from an infinitesimally small amount of matter."

>Spectra stands up and walks over to the board, trying to make sense of the dozens of high order math and physics equations that Mosaic has written.

"I…don't understand any of this."

>Looking at her from the side of his standing position, Mosaic then explains:

"To put it simply - energy efficiency for you and the rest of the Zoners is beyond what's physically possible, at least according to conventional thermodynamics and physics. You essentially have infinite energy, once your bodies have been altered by the Null Zone's cosmic radiation. It's what gives you all your superpowers - including Annihilator."

>Spectra, now understanding the situation, then says:

"So if we find a way to undo the changes that were done to Annihilator's body, at least temporarily…."

>Mosaic nods as he places the digital marker tool back on the workbench beside him - then he concludes Spectra's sentence.

"…..Then we neutralize the threat that he poses."

>Now assuming a thinking position, Mosaic then explains:

"Since I've been to the Null Zone before, albeit briefly, Annihilator is likely aware of my existence. If he's as powerful as you say, then he almost certainly has sensory abilities - and he should know how strong I am."

>Spectra then says:

"Meaning he'd expect you to come back and fight him eventually - removing the element of surprise."

>Nodding, Mosaic then looks at the board of physics and math equations, stating:

"I tend to be somewhat reckless - despite what you might think. I'm not perfect, and this is another instance where that's stopped me from solving the problem."

>Turning around to walk away from the holographic board, Mosaic then says:

"Fortunately, that's where she comes in. Assuming she's actually willing to help with this."

>Date: October 22nd, 2017
>Location: Sanctuary City - Archeon Complex
>Time: 11:00 AM

>The next day, Aiden is sitting in his office, finishing up on some work at Archeon - when he gets a message.

"Yes, Stella? Did something happen?"

>From the phone system on his desk, Aiden can hear Stella's voice as she states:

"Actually, no. There's something else. You've got some visitors. I'm going to send them up."

>Noting the message, Aiden then replies:

"Sure. That's fine."

>After a few minutes, Aiden hears a knock on his office door.

"Yeah, you can walk in. The door's unlocked."

>The door then slowly opens as two figures walk inside - the identity of both figures catches Aiden by surprise.

"….Mr. Robinson? Mrs. Robinson?"

>Both of the scientists give Aiden a warm smile as they walk into the office. As they're sporting their research gear, they enter the office and both give formal welcoming gestures.

"Hello Aiden. It's good to see you again."

>Neil says with a hint of enthusiasm in his voice. Beside him, his wife Alice then says:

"Oh you're looking more like your father every day! How is Silas? Is he doing well?"

>Aiden nods, stating:

"Yes, he's doing fine. Thank you for asking Mrs. Robinson."

>Both of the scientists then take a seat at chairs across from Aiden's main table, as Aiden puts his papers away and turns his full attention towards them both.

"So, what I can help you both with? Archeon was supposed to send representatives to the scientific exhibition later this weekend - since you're both scheduled to demonstrate your experiment there, correct?"

>Neil nods his head as he then scratches at his beard softly.

"Of course, yes. We didn't mean to imply any changes have been made - as we're still on schedule."

>Alice sits back in her seat, watching her husband as he continues to explain the situation.

"We're just here to inquire about a potential collaboration that we may have in mind. One that we believe holds a moral justification - as well as a financial one."

>Now more curious about the situation, Aiden gives his undivided attention as he asks:

"If I may….what potentially do you mean by collaboration?"

>Neil hesitates for a moment as he looks at his wife, giving her the cue to apply a more pathos-oriented argument forward.

>Looking at Neil for a moment, Alice then turns to face Aiden, still maintaining her warm smile and composure as she says:

"We've never outlined this to the public, after the experiment that gave us our powers…But those who we thought were killed during the laboratory experiment - they may have instead been transported to another dimension."

>Neil then interjects, looking at Aiden as he says:

"As a matter of curiosity, Aiden - have you looked into our research regarding the theoretical Null Zone before?"

>Aiden nods slowly, feigning partial ignorance in order to not arouse suspicion.

"Of course, Mr. Robinson. Though I've only had the time to briefly look over you and your wife's work. I was interested by the proposed theory of mass inversion that you brought up."

>Smiling in relief, Neil then says:

"That's great! It makes this much easier to explain."

>Alice rolls her eyes in amusement as she recognizes her husband's telltale signs of scientific tutoring incoming.

"Here he goes again…."

>Neil then immediately begins going into a 5 minute explanation of the various details and idiosyncrasies of dimensional mathematics and mass-energy inversion mechanics - as Aiden pretends to be a first time learner of the subject matter.

"….Which leads to the Arrhenius equation not accounting for the disproportionate difference in activation energy requirements for mass that's been altered by the cosmic radiation-"

>Alice then places a hand on Neil's own, stating:

"Honey, I believe Aiden here isn't looking for a crash course in applied thermodynamics and membrane theory physics."

>Nodding, Neil then says in response:

"Of course, Alice. I got carried away again, didn't I?"

>Alice nods slowly, showing an amused expression on her face, but still being genuinely supportive of her husband's enthusiasm for scientific discoveries.

"I apologize, Aiden. It's just so rare to come across individuals who can fully grasp the extent of our research work. To move back to the initial reason for our visit…."

>Neil fidgets with his fingers quickly before he says:

"We're hoping that Archeon can help sponsor our research into dimensional mechanics."

>Aiden blinks in surprise for a moment, before saying:

"Oh, I see. Well, I'd have to talk it over with the board of directors and the rest of my executive team - but I'm more than open to the idea."

>A look of surprise comes across Neil's face, and even Alice is somewhat stunned by his sudden agreement.

"You will? That's wonderful, Aiden! Thank you!"

>Neil says, with excitement rising in his voice.

>Alice, still looking somewhat surprised, then says:

"I'll admit, part of the reason we even decided to do this exhibit was to hopefully catch the attention of a massive corporation, such as Archeon or even UP."

>Aiden nods as he gives a polite smile to both of the scientists, stating:

"I understand. Seed capital is important for scientific endeavors - and I'm happy to help. Especially since my father always speaks highly of you both. I'm sure he would've done the same, had he still been CEO of the company."

>Aiden then looks at both Neil and Alice, as a thought crosses his mind. Considering it for a moment, he then says to them. both:

"Mr. Robinson? Have you and your wife experienced any issues with your experimental setup for this week?"

>Nodding, Neil then says:

"Unfortunately, yes. Our research transports have been attacked multiple times on our way here to Sanctuary City. I assume that it's attempted sabotage by some unsavory party."

>Alice then smiles as she states:

"Though it was nothing that the two of us couldn't handle ourselves, was it?"

>Smiling back at his wife, Neil then replies:

"Indeed it was not. Thankfully, no innocent people were harmed either."

>Turning his attention back towards Aiden, Neil then says:

"Though we are worried about the escalating nature of the attacks. I've calculated a roughly 35% chance of city-wide damage, given the current rate of attacks and the general level of Meta-Human crime in Sanctuary City."

>Alice then looks at Aiden as she states:

"We've tried working with the MRD, but they seemingly have their hands full between the constant Meta-Human gang warfare, and the seemingly endless supply of supervillains that the city is burdened with."

>Silent for a moment, Aiden then says:

"You're implying that some other force would be needed to protect your research here, aren't you?"

>Both Neil and Alice nod as Neil then speaks up, stating:

"I've noticed a pattern regarding the superhuman conflicts in this city. Generally speaking, if there's a surge of Meta-Human criminal activity around industrial areas, such as Archeon - certain vigilantes are more likely to appear."

>Alice then speaks up, continuing her husband's line of thought.

"Vigilantes like Mosaic, Omnius, Speedrunner and the like."

>Nodding, Neil then says:

"We're not sure of the reason why this is the case, but the correlative factor does exist - though we've had to trudge through years of public reports and trace back eyewitness information to confirm that these patterns do exist."

>Alice looks at Neil, stating:

"As if that's difficult for someone with an organic supercomputer for a brain."

>She says with an amused expression on her face.

>Neil sighs as he scratches his beard once more, stating:

"Honey please. You're exaggerating my cognitive capabilities."

>Alice closes her eyes and smiles as she says:

"I'm really not exaggerating anything. We both know that."

>Aiden then looks at both Neil and Alice as he says:

"I suppose then you'd believe that Archeon has some way to contact these vigilantes. Or at the very least, they're more likely to arrive quickly if the surrounding area is attacked."

>Nodding, Neil then states:

"Precisely. We're not insinuating about any potential connection between Archeon and the vigilantes - but that correlative factor of response time, combined with Archeon's resources and funding - make it the perfect venue for us to conduct our longer term research."

>Alice then leans forward, saying:

"So essentially, we'd like to become long term collaborative partners with Archeon - even if that means working out of Sanctuary City for the duration of our experimental work."

>Aiden thinks about the suggestion for a few seconds, before nodding his head and holding out his hand, stating:

"I can agree to those terms then. We'll work out a licensing agreement and a longer term business partnership for you to use our research facilities and general funds for your experimental work. However, it will be supervised for obvious reasons. That I can't personally change - without the board getting suspicious that is."

>Nodding in response, Neil shakes Aiden's hand, stating:

"This is more than we figured that we would get, so thank you Aiden."

>Alice then waits for Neil to remove his hand, before she moves to shake Aiden's hand as well.

"Likewise, I agree with Neil. We're happy to work with you."

>Aiden then shakes Alice's hand and then pulls back his own as he remains sitting at his desk.

"Thank you, both of you. Your research into dimensional mechanics is world class, and it'd be a valuable edge for the company if you provided us with an exclusive license to build and utilize dimensional technology."

>Holding out his hand in a cautionary gesture, he then clarifies:

"Strictly for communal and scientific purposes. I'll ensure that the contract forbids any weapons development or any form of warfare and spying applications for your technology."

>Nodding slowly, Neil then says:

"Thank you once again, Aiden."

>As he stands up, Alice does as well, giving Aiden a polite bow as she says:

"I knew we could count on you. As I said, you're just like your father."

>Aiden feels himself get partially embarrassed upon hearing those words - though he also feels a degree of pride.

{"I'm still not at your level of trust yet, dad. But I'm getting there."}

>He thinks to himself. Then he says out loud:

"I'll have Archeon's legal team and technological division contact you once the preparations are made. It shouldn't be longer than a few days for us to get the preliminary details sorted out."

>As Neil and Alice wave at Aiden, they then leave the room - as Aiden sighs and thinks to himself:

{"Yeah, this complicates things further. I'm going to need to talk to Lisa - ASAP."}

>Aiden then sits at his desk, thinking of how best to handle the situation.
