 No.4273

>Date: October 20th, 2017
>Time: 12:18pm

>Location: Sanctuary City - Industrial District

>In a dingy alley of the industrial district, a young woman in brightly coloured clothes kneels down next to a wall, reaching into her jacket.

>Carefully pulling a small bottle of a red liquid from her coat, the woman carefully removes the top of the liquid and takes a glove off, revealing a tattoo on her hand in the shape of a moon, a single open eye contained within the centre of it.

>With the bottle opened and her hand exposed, the woman puts a finger in it, coating her fingertip with the liquid, which she then places on the wall, slowly tracing to draw a symbol onto the wall, which fades away once it's complete.

>With a satisifed sigh of relief, the woman closes the bottle again and places it into her pocket, standing back up again.

>Turning around, the woman freezes in place as she notices another woman looking over her.

"Oh hi, can I help you with something. . . circus lady?"

>Without saying a word, the other woman raises a hand and a bolt of lightning fires from her hand, directly towards the first woman.

>The brightly dressed woman reacts quickly, jumping out of the way of the bolt, which fries the ground it hits.

"Wow, rude, what was that for?"

"Die in the name of the Dark One!"

"That's-"

>The woman fires off another bolt of lightning, whcih is promptly dodged.

"-kind of creepy, lady, and I don't wanna die for some weird shadow."

>The woman takes her ungloved hand and holds it out in the direction of the woman attacking her.

"Ok which ones haven't we used yet that could be useful here. . . oh, I got it!"

>The eye within the centre of the tattoo glows a dark red, and a set of dark red blades fire into the woman, skewering her in place.

>After a few seconds, the woman disappears, and the brightly coloured woman explodes into a cloud of dust.

"Nice, did it one, Selene. . ."

>As the woman, Selene finishes speaking, the dust settles on the ground, and the ground begins to shift as unknown creatures made of rock and stone begin to climb out of it.

". . .crap. Well, gotta go, seeya!"

>Not waiting for the creatures to fully form, Selene turns tail and runs, heading deeper into the backstreets of the industrial district. . .

>After a few minutes of running, Selene starts to wear out, her breath getting heavier.

>Stopping for a moment to catch her breath, Selene looks over her shoulder, only to see the creatures from earlier still chasing after her.

"Oh come on. . ."

>Looking down at her previously uncovered hand, Selener reaches for the glove for a moment then shakes her head.

"Need to save need to save. . ."

>Reaching into her coat, Selene takes out a slip of paper and slaps it against the wall, then begins running again, looking over her shoulder for a moment to check if the creatures are lined up with the paper.

>Once the creatures are in place, Selene pulls out another slip of paper and a lighter - setting the paper on fire.

>As soon as the paper catches light, the wall that the first piece of paper was placed on shoots out, crushing several of the creatures for a moment before they claw themselves out.

"Ok ok. . . let's try this one. . ."

>Selene switches direction quickly, heading down an alleyway - only to find it leads into a dead end.

"Great. . ."

>Behind Selene, the creatures round the corner. . .

>The creatures turning down the corner are smashed into the ground, as a blur crashes on top of them, kicking dust and debris into the air. A faint purple glow, resembling what seems to be eyes or some kinds of lenses begins moving towards the brightly dressed woman.

"You alright?"

>Omnius walks out from the dust, standing on the other side of the fence from the woman. He peers over her shoulder, noticing the initial batch of creatures that were chasing her. In an instant, they all crumple together into one spot, forming a rough, spherical shape.

>He looks back at the woman, tilting his head slightly.

"What are these? Some kind of fantasy themed robots?"

"Huh. . . robots can do that?"

>Selene shakes her head.

"Errr, no, mr robot, they're not robots like you. . . I think they're skeletons? Or rocks. Rock skeletons."

>The sphere of creatures remains inert, only shifting as a part of it crumbles away, hitting the ground.

>Behind Selene, part of the wall at the end of the alleyway crumbles away, and a new set of creatures emerges.

"I'm not a robot. I'm wearing a suit."

>Omnius notices the new set of creatures, and forcefully pushes them away with his pyschokinesis.

"Maybe let's talk somewhere else."

>Omnius's feet leave the ground as he lifts off into the sky, with the woman being remotely pulled up with him. They only fly for a moment, as Omnius places them both on a relatively high rooftop near-by.

"Okay. What's the deal? Why're you being chased by… rock skeletons?"

>He looks down over the edge watching as the creatures hurriedly make their way towards the building the pair are now on top of.

"I'm guessing that they work for the lady that said I needed to die for 'the dark one'."

>Selene shrugs.

"Why I need to die for them, I couldn't tell ya. Maybe the lady's just racist?"

>One of the creatures scrambles on top of the others, and rapidly runs up the wall, causing Selene to reach into her coat and pull out another slip of paper, which she lights on fire, sending a burst of flame down to it and sending it tumbling to the ground where it shatters, scorched.

>Selene takes out a handful of paper slips and drops them off the side of the building.

"Those will blow up if the things touch them, can you make the things touch them? Like how you made them into a ball earlier Mr. . ?"

>Selene looks Omnius up and down.

"Robot Suit Man?"

>Selene nods to herself, proud of the name.

"Oh, and I. . . uh. . . might've killed her? In self-defense, she shot lightning at me first. So I hit her with a spell and then she exploded into dust which became these things. . ."

>Selene pats her pocket, checking how many paper slips she has in it.

"Oh, right, weird lady trying to kill me, yeah. . . gotta admit this is the first time someone's used 'summon skeleton army' on me and-"

>Selene looks down at the newly formed creatures trying to get to her and sighs.

"Man, it would be so useful if I could fly - I bet you fly everywhere."

>Carefully, Selene reaches into her pocket and takes out an oddly shaped object, which she holds tightly in her right hand as she reaches into her coat again, taking out a regular-looking pocket knife.

"The safe house is a bit awkward to get to, I need to. . ."

>Selene puts the knife in her mouth for a second and runs her left hand along it, cutting it open enough to draw blood, a drop of which falls to the ground before placing her hand on the object, causing it to flash to life.

>Putting the knife back in her pocket so her mouth and hand is free, Selene holds out the object in front of her and it hovers in the air for moment.

"Right. . . safe houses were. . . ah right. . ."

>Taking her right glove off, Selene places her hand underneath the object and closes her eyes, then reopens them, both of them glowing a dark red - alongside the eye on her hand.

"Llll covenant ot yeeogngp Y' ahmgr'luh, entrance l' agl cahf shelters lw'nafh'nahor."

>The object flashes a dark red in response to the phrase, and Selene looks away for a moment, closing her eyes as if the light coming from it is much brighter for her.

>Then, the object stops glowing and lands down in Selene's hand, the glow from her tattoo and eyes soon following it.

"Ok, errr. . ."

>Selene points off in a seemingly random direction.

>Selene shrugs.

"Well, I try to avoid, it, you know, it stings, but I have a good routine for. . ."

>As Selene speaks, and Omnius probes, reality melts away for him, reforming in the image of a vast library, bookshelves stacking up to the sky, where a single, solitary eye sits, looking down at the world below.

>In a chair opposite of where Omnius is, a woman with white and black hair sits, turning her head at an unsettling speed when he appears, having noticed his presence almost immediately.

"Hmmmm? No. You're not supposed to be in here."

>The woman melts away and appears behind Omnius, touching him on the back, and the library fades away, with Omnius returning to regular reality, where Selene is still speaking as if no time had passed at all.

>Reality melts away again, although this time, the resulting location is a blank space with a water-like substance making up the floor, with the same eye as before hanging in the sky, hovering behind the woman.

"That's very rude of you, didn't your parents tell you not to pry into people's heads?"

>Omnius's reflection in the water changes, showing moments from throughout his life.

"I suppose he would teach you the opposite. But it's still rude to just pry like that, Orion."

"Th-thank you. . . and I'm sorry. . ."

>Quintilla steps away, and the water shifts to show Maximilla again.

"Once again, I am sorry for the inconvenience caused by my daughter, I will endeavour to ensure that such lapses in my parenting do not happen again. . ."

>Maximilla looks Omnius up and down.

"Do you have children, Omnius?"

>Omnius suddenly becomes fidgety, gaining an awkward sense in his tone.

"No, I do not. And I'm, er… not really planning on having any. It's a responsibility I don't want to commit to. But I don't dislike kids or anything."

>Maximilla watches Omnius fidgeting, her eyes making it clear that she's making a note of the reaction.

"If you ever do, make sure to keep them well-disciplined, to avoid situations like this."

>As she finishes the sentence, the water collapses, forming a harmless puddle on the ground, leaving only Omnius and Marie-Anne on the roof.

"Je déteste être près d'elle, elle me donne la chair de poule. . ."

>Remembering she's not alone, Marie-Anne coughs.

"I mean, I hope the message was to your liking?"

>As soon as the water drops into a puddle, Omnius recomposes himself.

"Je comprends pourquoi. Elle doit être difficile à travailler."

"It was certainly a message."

>Omnius looks at Marie-Anne.

>Anne-Marie takes a moment to process Omnius's sentence, then realises what language he spoke in.

"Merde."

>Scratching her head, Anne-Maries shrugs.

"Oh, those, yeah, shouldn't be a problem. . . Victorine, that's my sister, took that job. We decided it was better if I ran after you because I'm faster. . ."

>Anne-Marie closes her eyes for a moment, and the faintest sign of psionic energy comes from her.

"Yeah, she's handling it, no need to worry."

>Anne-Marie blinks at the question.

"Huh? No. . . I'm not a wizard. . . Wait, more wizards? Wizards are real?"

>Anne-Marie gives Omnius an inquisitive look.

"Or are you just messing with me?"

>Dropping the look, Anne-Marie reaches into her pockets and takes out a phone, going through it until she finds a picture.

"I said what I am earlier, I'm a magisterial guard, one of the Magistrissa's three sworn swords. There's me. . ."

>Anne-Marie points to herself in the picture.

"My twin sister Victorine. . ."

>Anne-Marie points to a woman who looks incredibly similar to her, but with white hair.

". . .and then there's our leader Céleste D'Aubugny, she's currently back in Fortuna protecting her highness herself. . ."

>Anne-Marie points at a woman with dark hair, whose stomach is seemingly made of water, then points at another woman with white hair.

"The Magistrissa, who we all serve, she's the one who told me and Victorine to do this errand for the Grand Councillor, as a courtesy thing, you know."

"…Right, okay."

>Omnius's feet leave the rooftop, and he begins to slowly float backwards.

"I'm gonna assume that's it then. If you don't know anything about it, I think I'm going to go try and find the person who created those skeletons."

>Time: 1:01pm

>Location: The Oval Office, The White House, Washington D.C.

>Maxmilla Montanus stands in the middle of the Oval Office, her arms crossed, opposite from the Resolute Desk. Behind her, to her right, a stern woman with long red hair stands, watching every move in the room. Sitting at the desk is the President himself, flanked by an older general and a younger officer in a dress uniform, the pair sharing a resemblance to each other despite the difference in age and gender.

"I can assure you, President Underwood, that the latest statements out of our country are simply posturing, the Magistrissa is barely an adult, she will back down if things get too serious. However-"

>Maximilla glances over her shoulder at the red headed woman for a second, narrowing her eyes, then turns back to the president.

"-I would recommend that you tell your allies on Isla del Oesta to tone down their activities, lest the eyes of the world focus on them too much."

>The president is silent, then nods.

"Thank you, Councillor Montanus, I'll keep that in mind, and I appreciate your assurance that relations between our two countries will remain strong."

>The president indicates for the woman to leave the room, and she bows her head, stepping out.

>With the number down by one, the President indicates for the door to the office to be closed, and looks over to the red-headed woman.

"Well, Mrs Blake, I trust that's sufficient for E.Y.E.?"

>Bella Blake (Senior) doesn't move from her position, instead sticking to the side

"Hardly, George, you need to reign in your Oestan dogs now, before things escalate into a serious conflict, when Major Hind hears-"

"Why should we be beholden to the word of a disgraced peacekeeper?"

>The interjection comes from the general, only for President Underwood to wave him off.

"Calm, general, E.Y.E. simply wants the same as us, peace and stability. Besides, the expansion to H.O.M.E.L.A.N.D. wouldn't be able to happen without their generous funding."

>Looking back to Bella, President Underwood gives her a classic campaign smile.

"I will talk to the Oestan government, Bella, and if things get too serious, I'll take this to congress and see about intervening - in the name of peace, of course."

>Bella narrows her eyes, but relents.

"I'll report your response back to Hind, but we'll be keeping a close eye on you, George."

>Not waiting for a dismissal, Bella walks out of the room, leaving only the President, the general, and the young woman.

"Well, I think that all went well, don't you, general?"

>The general doesn't say anything in response.

"All business with you, isn't it? Well, you'll be glad to know that I didn't just ask you to come here to discuss the politics of small island nations. . ."

>President Underwood indicates for the pair to move in front of the desk.

"Congress has approved my bill for expanding H.O.M.E.L.A.N.D., and you two are key for it. General, I need you heading up these expansion efforts, you have full congressional approval to recruit as you wish - I hear Meta-Gen has some excellent new work in the field of human enhancements, if you need somewhere to start."

"As for you, miss, I need you heading up our operations in Sanctuary, it's only appropriate for the city of Meta-Humans to be the testing bed for our new initiatives in handling them. . ."

>The pair are silent as the President talks.

"Well, if you understand your roles, it's time for you to head on your way, bags don't pack themselves, y'know."

"Understood, sir."

>The two salute and filter out of the room, leaving the President by himself.

>With everyone else gone, President Underwood makes his way over to the door, and peaks outside to the secret service agent at the door.

"Ah, Jerry, could you make sure I'm not disturbed for the next thirty minutes, I need some time to decompress after all these meetings."

"Of course, Mr President."

>The agent nods and the president locks the door, moving to the centre of the presidential seal and kneeling down.

"My Lord. . ."

>Reality melts away around the president, leaving only a black void as does the president's form itself, revealing the form of a woman with feline features below it.

". . .the seeds have been planted."

>A tall man with long, dark hair sits several feet away from the woman, a glowing pair of red eyes observing her.

"Excellent work, Famine, continue to stoke the flames of this conflict."

"Of course, my lord. . ."

>The woman looks up.

"-but, I don't understand why we need to-"

>The Famine's words are suddenly cut off as a force tightens around her throat, lifting her up into the air as she clutches at it.

"You do not need to understand, Famine, only to do as commanded - the sympathies you have for those people died with the woman you were before "

>The force loosens, letting Famine drop to the ground unceremoniously.

"It's just. . . we're trying to make a better world, are we not, why do we need to do this?"

>The force begins to tighten for a moment, then stops.

"Some sacrifices are necessary for the new world, but they will be reborn into it too, this I can assure you. . ."

>Time: 1:01pm
>Location: Sanctuary City - Industrial District

>Along the route where Orion and Selene previously ran, a slender white-haired woman, with a very similar build and look to Anne-Marie, stabs into one of the skeletal creatures that was chasing the pair earlier, causing it to collapse into a pile of rocky bones.

>Turning around, the woman sees several more of the cretures turning around a corner to head to her, having clearly identified her as a threat of some kind.

>Shifting her stance, the woman points her sword at the nearest one, taking a defensive stance ready for it to engage her, only for it to burst into a plume of blue flame as the one at the back is stabbed by a greatsword, a red-headed woman in full plate armour stepping over the smoldering corpse, the other skeletons bursting into similar flames as she walks past.

"I appreciate the help, friend, but I had it. . . covered, as you say."

>The red-headed knight pauses.

"I'm sure you did, but this way is faster."

>The knight raises her greatsword, pointing it at the white-haired woman.

"This doesn't need to come to blows, I just need a simple question answering, did you see who these creatures were pursuing?"

>The white-haired woman shakes her head.

"No. . . but my sister did, she said that they were pursuing a man in futuristic armour, and a woman in a long jacket. . . and that the woman disappeared after being dropped from the air."

>The knight drops her sword, then punches a nearby wall with a surprising amount of strength, leaving structural cracks all along the surface of it.

"God damn it! I was this close! Fucking piece of-"

>The woman kicks the wall as well, adding more and more damage to it as she lets out an array of expletives and curses. Then suddenly stops as she comes to a realisation, turning her head to look at the white-haired woman with a stare that makes her look possessed.

"A man in armour? One of the vigilantes in this city."

"Yes, the one they call 'Omnius', we were sent to track him down to send him a message."

>The knight walks over to her sword, picking it up, and starts to walk away.

"I'll ask him next, then. . ."

>The knight stops after a few steps.

"Oh, and if you see the witch again. . ."

>The knight turns around to properly address the white-haired woman.

"Kill her before she kills you."

>Between-Space

>Selene Whately stretches as she walks into a room in the void, various books scattered about along the "floor", and falls back onto a chair set up in the area, letting out a sigh of relief as she relaxes.

"That was a close one. . . I nearly died and got saved by one of the worst people to find out about what I was doing. . . oh!"

>Selene jumps up, moving over to a floating map of Sanctuary City, and takes out a permanent marker, tracing along the map until she finds the spot where she drew the symbol earlier, which she marks with an X.

"One down. . . a lot to go. . . but it's progress. . ."

>Putting the pen away, Selene walks over to another part of her section of void, and takes off her glove, revealing her tattoo, which she holds up in the air.

"In the name of the Night Mother, I, the servant of the Harbinger, call upon my sisters in this hour of dawn. . ."

>The eye within the tattoo flashes and glows a darker red than it did any of the previous times, and several symbols begin to etch themselves on surrounding inky blackness, with a symbol in the shape of an eye taking a place of prominence above them all.

>As the red glow shines over her face, Selene grins.

"Sisters, the ritual has begun."
