 No.4345

>Date: November 1st, 2017
>Location: Sanctuary City - Downtown District
>Time: 10:08 AM

>Billowing smoke curdles around the molten wreckage of large semi trucks and cars, the collateral damage of a series of coordinated slices. A faint gleam of silver shines through the amorphous mass of charged smoke - only for a discharge of air pressure to rupture the rest of the smoke away.

>A tall figure in dark armor shifts their position, with one hand on their hip, and the other hoisting a large silver broadsword over their shoulder. A shimmering combination of obsidian black and ruby red armor covers the figure from head to toe - with a flowing mane of seemingly supernatural hair protrudes from their helmet.

>Nearby MRD agent are either completely knocked out, or struggling to rise to their feet - attempting to radio for backup.

"Christ, where do these fucking maniacs come from?!"

>An MRD agent coughs up blood as they struggle to pull themselves further behind the wreckage of a MRD hovercraft vehicle. Muttering to themselves, they tap a set of buttons on the side of their helmet, sending a remote SOS signal back to the nearest precinct.

"HQ, this is Agent Phi-312 of MRD Bravo Squad. My entire contingent is neutralized - subject in question is an unidentified superhuman, humanoid in structure - wearing knight armor. Target doesn't fit any standard demonstrations of Meta-Human abilities. No distinct energy signatures. No physical strain when using their abilities. Nothing."

>The MRD agent slowly looks out from behind their wreckage, still from their prone position as they attempt to play dead. They get a view of the armored figure, who is slowly walking away - moving down the street.

"Requesting immediate support from the Omegas."

>The MRD agent says, before their body finally gives out, and they fall to the ground - unconscious.

>Location: Sanctuary City - Residential District
>Time: 10:08 AM

>The backyard of the Grayson Manor is lively with the sound of laughter and sizzling food - as a man with white hair and circular sunglasses continues flipping burgers over a grill with supernatural precision.

"…Just saying, Phoebe. No one would believe you if you said that Hyperia could create a second Grand Canyon. People think you're strong, but not that strong."

>Phoebe, annoyed, rolls her eyes as she leans back in her chair, swirling her iced tea drink as she retorts:

"You weren't this confident in yourself when I locked you inside the closet as a kid, Aiden. Don't think I can't repeat that with the Earth's mantle now."

>Jonah checks the propane tank inside of the custom built grill, saying:

"Aiden, Phoebe - guys please stop verbally sparring, at least for today? This was supposed to be the day that the whole family just unwinds and engages in productive recreational-"

>Jonah hears a voice speak up over his own, as a man with black hair and sunglasses walks over with a tray of uncooked bratwurst sausages - setting the tray down beside Aiden and the grill as he gives a mischievous grin.

"Oh don't even bother, Jay. You know how your brother and sister are. Always trying to change the pecking order as the second gen."

>Jason Grayson then pats Aiden on the head, stating:

"I'll give you this little brother, you're definitely the most tenacious."

>Aiden gives his older brother, Jason, a blank look behind his sunglasses.

"Seriously, Jason? You're taking her side with that framing."

>Jason gives a sheepishly innocent shrug as he then states:

"Why heavens, little brother! Why would you make such an outrageous claim regarding my intentions?"

>Phoebe gives Aiden a smug smile as she says:

"Yeah Aiden, why would you jump the gun like that? You always did think with your lower half instead of your brain."

>Aiden flicks a cooked burger at Phoebe with a flick of his wrist, looking to the side as the food flies behind him.

>Phoebe in an instant uses her super breath to create a pressurized cushion for the burger - before reorienting it perfectly towards an open burger bun.

"Show-off. You could've just caught it like a normal person."

"Drama queen. You didn't need to try and ruin my outfit with an improvised food grenade either."

>Silence falls between the two siblings as Aiden and Phoebe then both sigh and simultaneously say:

"Sorry."

"Sorry."

>Jonah then looks at them both, as he gets up from fixing the propane tank and smiles - saying:

"See? Mutually beneficial conflict resolution is a hallmark of effective familial connection-"

>Aiden and Phoebe both turn to stare at their brother Jonah, their eyes glaring at him from behind their sunglasses as Jonah laughs nervously, stating:

"Haha…never mind."

>At that moment, the door to the manor opens as a woman with blonde hair and green eyes walks outside, carrying a tray of drinks.

"Sorry I'm late with the drinks! I had to help Kira finish up with the ice!"

>Stella carefully maneuvers the large tray full of ice-chilled beverages onto the large table. After setting it down, she walks over to Aiden and looks over his shoulder, saying:

"I overheard the sparring fight. You really should get along better with your sister, Aiden."

>Sighing, Aiden gives Stella soft smile, with his eyes still obscured by his sunglasses.

"You're right, Stel. I'm just used to the banter."

>Kira is the last one to appear outside, carrying a pair of ice coolers in her hands as she slowly walks outside. Her blonde hair is partially covered by her cap - as she places the ice coolers down on the table - before taking a seat beside Phoebe.

"Jonah's right you know. You two always were at each other's throats. It was remarkable - just how many times you two fought."

>Jason snickers as he then speaks:

"You remember the time Pheebs made a snowman during the Winter and Aiden deliberately steered his sled through it? She threatened to turn him into an icicle for a week."

>Kira stifles a laugh as Phoebe gets somewhat defensive, snapping as she states:

"Hey! I spent 20 minutes working on that snowman! I wasn't going to let a transgression like that slide!"

>Stella gives Aiden a quizzical look as Aiden himself gets defensive, saying:

"She spent the past month constantly teasing me about my strength, or lack thereof. She said that the fact that I couldn't lift a car yet, while she could - was proof that she was better than me. Naturally I took that personally."

>Stella rolls her eyes in amusement as she then says:

"And your response to that brief moment of emasculation, was to destroy Phoebe's snowman a month later out of sheer spite - when the opportunity arose, you had no hesitation, didn't you?"

>Aiden then looks away, tapping his cheek with his thumb rapidly - showcasing his embarrassment.

"…..Yes. But I was a kid. I obviously wouldn't hold that against her now."

>Phoebe looks at Aiden and gives him a scoff, then a warm smile, stating:

"I know - and I appreciate that."

>Then all of a sudden, Aiden, Phoebe and Jonah's phones go off. The fact that Jason and Kira's don't receive any messages is their first clue - this is vigilante related.

>Aiden, Phoebe and Jonah's eyes all immediately narrow, as the tactical and response-oriented mentalities of Mosaic, Hyperia and Scalar take precedent in their minds.

"MRD S.O.S. intercepted by the Prism's decryption systems. Wide band message."

>Aiden says, as Phoebe immediately considers the possible options.

"Has to be at least an Alpha-level Meta-Human. MRD response teams usually have the target subdued within 10 minutes outside of those cases."

>Jonah, the most strategic and directly knowledgable of the 3 vigilantes, then perks up, stating:

"I'm reading the decrypted message now."

>Jonah then reads the message out loud:

"…..'My entire contingent is neutralized - subject in question is an unidentified superhuman, humanoid in structure - wearing knight armor. Target doesn't fit any standard demonstrations of Meta-Human abilities. No distinct energy signatures. No physical strain when using their abilities. Nothing.'……"

>Looking back at Aiden and Phoebe, all three of them respond to each other:

"Para-Human of some kind."

"Yep. Has to be. Meta-Gene energy signature scan revealed a negative response according to the MRD files on the perpetrator."

"Look at their behavioral patterns though, based on the recorded helmet data. They ignored the MRD agent and walked away in the opposite direction. You don't do that unless your enemies are irrelevant and below your degree of challenge."

>A realization falls over all 6 of the young adults in the mansion's backyard. This wasn't a random Meta-Human criminal attack. This was a warning, a test of power. A sign of intent to face someone on the figure's level of power.

"We're going, right? No way we're missing a potential opportunity to kick some sense into this person?"

>Phoebe asks, looking between Aiden and Jonah.

>Aiden nods slowly as he stands up, stating:

"Not even a question at this point. Originally I was going to ignore the response - but after hearing that MRD agent's report? We're going."

>Jonah nods as he then says:

"Agreed. The structural and economic damage that this figure could do if left unchecked would be an unconscionable stain on the established vigilante structure in the city. We have no choice but to engage and neutralize the situation."

>Stella walks over to Aiden, Phoebe and Jonah, about to ask them if she can join them.

"Don't worry Stella, you can come with us. We're probably going to need your magic anyways."

>Stella nods, satisfied as she states:

"Good. Because I was going there to stop them either way. Having you all around makes this better."

>Looking at Phoebe and Jonah, Aiden then says:

"I'll contact Orion and see if he's en route to the scene. Stella, get us close to the scene of the attack."

>Stella nods and then snaps her fingers, as all 4 of the vigilantes are then enveloped in rainbow light - transported away from the mansion in an instant.

>Location: Sanctuary City - Downtown District
>Time: 10:10 AM

>Only 2 minutes have passed since the S.O.S. signal - though that was all it took. A large contingent of specialized Meta-Humans and Para-Humans now surround the cordoned off blockade. The sounds of large energy explosions and kinetic discharges rupture the nearby streets, shattering glass and uprooting concrete and tar - creating jagged edges, urban-esque death traps of sharp, serrated glass and tarmac.

>The bruised and battered form of Aisha and Derelict lay sprawled across the floor near the epicenter of the blasts, as the armored figure slowly looks up and turns to see the armored form of Mirage in the distance.

>The armored figure then speaks up, their voice a distinct cadence of two simultaneous and perfectly synchronized people - one of a man and one of a woman.

"Well, tin can? I'm waiting. The rest of your cosplayers didn't put up much of a fight. So let's see how you do."

>Mirage narrows her eyes behind her armor, as she begins firing rapid fire plasma beams from her shoulder mounted cannons. The beam spread is a rapid fire torrent of precision-targeted destructive capacity; a series of miniature thermobaric energy blasts, each capable of leveling an entire city block.

>The armored figure allows themselves to be hit by the full power of the blast, before the dust settles as they lightly tap their armor - flicking off small dust mites.

"Still an underperformer, Little Miss Changeling? Pity. I wonder if there's a prescription for something as flacid as that attack."

>In an instant, the armored figure appears, standing directly in front of Mirage. The shapeshifting Meta-Human reacts instantly, using her suit's temporal manipulation technology to begin moving at relativistic speeds, away from the area.

{"Shit! They're way too strong! Gonna have to disengage!"}

>As she continues to run, a cold sweat forms on Mirage's brow as she then immediately thinks to herself:

{"Wait. How the fuck did they even know who I am?! I don't use this armor on patrol!"}

>As Mirage continues to run at relativistic speeds, she catches glimpses of black, red and blue all around her. Her eyes widen behind her armor as she tells herself:

{"No there's no fucking way they're that fast! I've seen Arachnid with the same tech that I'm using! Only a handful of vigilantes in this city are able to move at this speed! Think Jen, think!"}

>Mirage, immediately acting on hindbrain instinct, begins to shift towards self-preservation mode. Her power may be great in this advanced armor, but she isn't willing to gamble her life on her pride as a fighter. Instead, she takes the opportunity to use the suit's stealth features to turn invisible, coming to a halt and diving into a corner of a nearby alleyway.

>The armored knight immediately appears as a stationary figure in the open roads. Looking around, they can see the terrified civilians running away, and the distant MRD hovercraft flying to converge on its location. It scoffs as it then says out loud:

"Cold feet already Mirage? A shame. I was starting to enjoy this little cat-and-mouse game of ours. Well you know what they say."

>The figure then grabs onto the hilt of the giant broadsword slung over their back armor plating, pulling it out as the giant ebony black blade crackles with red energy.

"You don't swing at the king if you think you're gonna miss."

>Holding up their blade high into the air above them with one hand, the armored knight then concludes:

"….And I'd say you've whiffed. Batter up!"

>The armored knight then swings forward with one hand, slicing the air with enough strength as to completely distort the fabric of space-time around them, creating a pressurized force wave that flattens every car, electronic device and low-height structure around them. The force of the pressurized wave sends Mirage flying backwards crashing into the wall of the alleyway and leaving an invisible silhouette in her exact shape - as she's knocked into the building.

>Mirage rolls onto the ground, sideways as she lands near an empty wall in the building. Coughing, she slowly stands up, only to see the armored knight standing before them.

"Hey, Jen. Sleep well?

>Before Mirage can even react, the armored knight grabs her armored form by the throat, lifting up with one hand. Mirage attempts to use her augmented strength to punch the armored knight, to no avail. The knight just simply laughs in a dual-synchronized voice as it says:

"You're not hurting me, Jen. Very few things on this planet can accomplish that."

>Then a voice calls out from behind them, stating:

"Yeah? Let's start with ol' reliable then."

>Before the armored knight can turn around fully - its helmet is swiftly uppercut by a single fist, creating a shockwave of condensed power around the point of impact so immense, that it ruptures the ceiling away - causing the armored knight to be sent flying hundreds of meters into the sky.

>The figure of Hyperia looks up at the sky in brief satisfaction before she turns her attention back towards Mirage.

"Hey, you. Mirage or whatever your name is. Go help your buddies back at Central Street."

>Mirage then looks surprised, turning her attention to see the figures of Mosaic, Scalar and Andromeda behind Hyperia. They all nod at her as Andromeda then says:

"Hyperia is correct. We'll handle it from here. Thank you for distracting them and holding their attention for a few minutes, as I needed to prepare a countermeasure. Your aid was valuable."

>Mirage, recognizing that she's outmatched in this fight, slowly nods and turns to leave, moving at superhuman speeds.

>Once Mirage is gone, Hyperia then says:

"Alright you three. What are we looking at here?"

>Mosaic keeps his hands in his coat's outer pocket slits as he states:

"Not a Meta-Human, didn't see an energy signature during microscopic vision scans."

>Andromeda then holds her hands out and begins making hand gestures, creating glowing pink runes as she speaks:

"Not only that, but they appear to be magical in nature - along with another energy that I have no experience cataloguing - but it isn't magic."

>Scalar begins walking around the area quickly, his mind already moving at a million miles per second.

"Her energy output doesn't seem to be comparable to, say, Thrasher's or Titanomachia's. But her sheer raw strength…I already ran the calculations in my head. Her strength was enough to deal with Mirage…Isn't that suit a force amplifier to strength and speed?"

>Mosaic nods, his mind now fixated on the figure high in the distance.

"They're not one of Ouranos's own either. No residual energy structure that's comparable to a Thulcandran or a Chronarch. This is something else entirely."

>Mosaic didn't say the more damning part out loud - the fact that the energy signature feels familiar to him. Alost too similar.

>In a single moment. he went to his mindscape in order to determine whether an alter was loose. After a few moments, his mind snaps back to reality as he says:

"Nothing of mine either. At least not intentionally. But still…"

>Looking up at the hovering form of the armored knight, Mosaic stares at them, saying:

"….I can't help but feel a sense of deja vu here."

>As if to prove the point, the armored knight crosses their arms and gives a slow crane of their helmet to the side.

"And there's the group of the hour! I've been waiting for you to show up. What took you so long?"

>Hyperia immediately acts, flying up into the air and attempting to strike the armored knight with a flurry of punches. The armored knight, now no longer caught by surprise, responds by blocking each attack and striking Hyperia in the face - drawing blood.

>Hyperia flies backwards a few feet, wiping the blood from her nose as she begins glowing with red energy - regenerating her health.

"Lucky shot, dickhead."

>Giving an amused laugh, the armored knight then says:

"Oh I think we both know that nothing involving our level of strength ever constitutes 'luck', Phoebe."

>Hyperia's eyes widen upon the utterance of her secret identity - with Mosaic also getting caught off guard with his super hearing.

"How in the world…..Alright, I take it back. That feeling of deja vu wasn't an accident. Whoever this is, they're in the know - so assume nothing else, going forward."

>Scalar and Andromeda nod as Scalar then runs outside, as Mosaic and Andromeda fly up to meet Hyperia - both of them now assuming a combat stance.

>Mosaic produces his large customized magic-technology sword, a wide-edged claymore named Durandal. The integrated circuitry and magical runes of the sword glow with a faint hum of power, as Andromeda hovers beside her partner, manifesting rainbow-colored arcane runes around her hands.

>Hyperia looks at Mosaic and Andromeda and nods at them, regaining her power as she says:

>The armored knight holds their hand out, willing their large black claymore blade to their hand - as they rest it on their shoulder.

"Now what makes you think that you're gonna have a good shot 'taking a bastard like me down' anyways?"

>Mosaic tightens the grip of his gloves around the hilt of his Durandal sword - aiming at the armored knight.

"The fact that there's three of us, in the air, another of us ready to blitz you down below, and only one of you - Lancelot. You do the math."

>The armored knight then laughs once more, their dual-voice nature and the voices now appearing oddly familiar to these specific heroes.

"I would've expected nothing less from you Aiden. I love that about you and Phoebe. Always so brash, arrogant and headstrong. There's never a nail on a surface that you can't slam in with a sledgehammer - and it's exactly why I picked the two of you to become Dragoon."

>Confused, Hyperia shouts:

"The hell are you talking about?! We didn't agree to fuck all!"

>Hyperia then rushes forward, blasting a large wave of her red heat vision in scattershot bursts, attempting to fry Dragoon - only for the later to slash away at each of the beams, while Mosaic rushes at Dragoon from behind.

>Dragoon intercepts Mosaic's sword with their own - and then intercepts Hyperia's strike…..with a glowing red energy construct of a giant armored shield, an identical construct to Hyperia's own powers.

"What-"

"Oh, that's not good."

"Nonononono that's the worst possible outcome!"

>Hyperia, Mosaic and Andromeda all say, respectively. The realization hitting them all at the same moment.

"I knew it. Isaac talked about this during our training, remember Stella?"

>Andromeda nods slowly, her brow furrowing behind her visor as her eyes widen in surprise. The panic slowly starts to set in as she remembers the single word that Isaac told her at the start of that lecture.

{"Effigy."}

>Mosaic and Hyperia then push backwards, maintaining their distance as they hover in the air. The reality of the situation sinking in for them as they then prepare their next offensive attack.

{"It's an Effigy, but not just an Effigy of anyone. It's a fusion of me and Phoebe! Conceptual hybridization, applied to people as strong as my sister and I….that's a disastrous combination…."}

>Reading Mosaic's mind, Dragoon then softly chuckles - the two distinct voices now suddenly clicking in their familiarity. It's the combined voices of Aiden and Phoebe themselves.

"Disastrous is such a strong term to use, Aiden. I prefer the term….liberating. The power that you've both given me is freeing, in a way that I didn't think was possible."

>Immediately moving forward, they grab onto Mosaic's helmet and slam him down towards the ground - shattering the entirety of the street below, they maintain their grip on his helmet.

"And once I've consumed both of you, I'll never be hungry again. My brothers and sisters never had the courage to latch onto concepts as succulent as your own. If only you and your sister knew just how powerful you really are."

>In that moment, a bright golden light appears in Dragoon's periphery, as Scalar lands a dual-foot kick strike on Dragoon's helmet - sending them flying backwards for half a mile into the air. Barely catching his feet as he lands on the ground, Scalar immediately turns to Mosaic, appearing before him and kneeling to check up on his brother.

"Aiden, are you alright?!"

"I'm fine, Jonah."

>Mosaic says as he stabs his large sword, Durandal, into the cracked pavement before him. Taking a moment to get his bearings, he then looks up at Scalar and says:

"The enemy, Dragoon - they're a fusion of Phoebe and myself on a conceptual level. Long story, but it's something called an Effigy."

>Rising to his feet, Mosaic takes Durandal out of the ground as he takes a defensive stance with the sword, stating:

"It's a conceptual parasite. It latches onto the idea of a sentient being, and manifests a body based on that being. It can do that with multiple people - which is why it sounds like two people."

>Scalar's eyes widen behind his cowl and lenses as he begins processing the previous vocal statements uttered by Dragoon in his mind - clearly monitoring and analyzing the structure of the pitch, tone and cadence.

"….My God. It is your voice. Yours and Phoebe's. That thing is a fusion of you?!"

>Mosaic nods as he then says:

"Yeah, but mimicry is a two way street if you remember my power. Dragoon may be a fusion of Phoebe and me - and it may have both of our power sets. But it also has our vulnerabilities - like that energy of yours. Remember what Stephanie told me about my magic?"

>Scalar nods slowly, the realization appearing before his eyes.

"Lisa's energy and my own don't mix well with magic. And you generate magical energy as a side effect of your powers."

>Mosaic nods once more, looking out in the distance and seeing Hyperia and Andromeda engaging in combat with Dragoon - with Hyperia attacking in melee range and Andromeda attacking Dragoon with spatial distortions, localized temporal attacks and magical binding spells.

"Usually I've got full control of my magical energy generation. But a lapse in focus can trigger a wave of magic energy - and if that reacts with your power and its electricity…"

>Scalar finishes the statement for Mosaic by saying:

"It causes the annihilation effect that could wipe even you out. We just need an opening for me to blast at it."

>Mosaic then immediately projects a telepathic message to Andromeda and Hyperia - using magic instead of his natural psionic abilities. The encryption of the magic transfer is also handled by his artifacts, instead of his mind - as Dragoon, as an Effigy, cannot copy items - only powers and characteristic traits.

>As the two superheroines in the sky immediately get the message, they quickly begin changing up their tactics. Hyperia and Andromeda then begin hanging backwards, working together to coordinate powerful ranged energy attacks. Phoebe uses her red energy constructs to fire off blasts of pure emotional energy - something that Dragoon has to actively defend against with her own constructs.

"What, you're going back to zoning like a coward?"

>Ignoring the taunts, Hyperia piles on the assault - combining her heat vision, her arctic breath and her emotional energy construct blasts into a powerful mixture of supernatural power and force. Andromeda at the same time begins casting an incantation in Latin, generating a magical singularity of distorted space-time, which warps the area around Dragoon. The induced time dilation effect is magically anchored, and slows down Dragoon just enough for Mosaic to fly into the area with a charged Durandal blade.

"Let's see you handle this."

>Slowed down for a fraction of a second, Dragoon is too late to raise up its blade, as Durandal with a glowing red charged edge to its blade - slashes through Dragoon's magical armor. Durandal's core ability of Arcane Primacy, which allows it to negate most forms of magic - slices and ruptures open Dragoon's armor - exposing the pure magical energy within.

"Now, Scalar!"

>The speedster with brown hair whipping around his lenses, who has been running around in a large circular radius below the aerial spectacle - takes a moment to focus his lenses and magnify his sight with his suit's abilities. He gains a perfect view of the area now exposed from Dragoon's armor. Thinking quickly, he finishes his movements, arcing his hand backwards and charging it with an incandescent gold electrical current - aiming it and then blasting a javelin of supernatural energy at the open area of Dragoon's armor.

>As Scalar's supernatural lightning bolt connects with Dragoon's internal magical energy core - reality immediately begins to buckle under the conceptual weight and force of the interaction. Two primal forces of creation begin violently clashing within Dragoon's body, causing its humanoid armored form to begin rapidly convulsing and expanding.

>Dragoon screams with the dual cadence of both Aiden and Phoebe's voices, before it reverts into a singular alien and inhuman cadence - that of an extra-dimensional and conceptual parasitic being. Soon, the figure known as Dragoon begins to rapidly mutate back into its humanoid transparent grey form as a faceless parasite - an Effigy.

>The Effigy, screaming in pain as it continues getting torn apart by the reaction, begins shouting:

"All I wanted was to stabilize myself! I just needed your power! ARRGGHHHHH!!!!!"

>The Effigy, fully overloaded by the force of the impending conceptual annihilation event, then acts in a form of instinctual self-preservation. It warps itself and the force overcoming it - disappearing from this plane of existence, leaving nothing behind.

>As the white light dies down and fades away, Mosaic lowers his blade and turns to look at Hyperia. Nodding at her slightly and slowly, he then says:

"…..Just so you know. I apologize for the snowman incident. The pettiness wasn't a good look, and I'm sorry for that sis."

>Hyperia slowly gives a wide smile as she replies:

"….I should be the one sorry about locking you in a closet. I had a lot to prove, but you weren't the one who needed convincing of that. So I'm sorry too little brother."

>Narrowing his eyes behind his helmet lense, Mosaic then says:

"….Little? We were born at the same time!"

>Hyperia scoffs lightly, still smirking as she says:

"That's what dad wants you to think. Why do you think I'm the one that he trusts with the finances? The oldest child always gets the most responsibility, duh."

>Mosaic, now annoyed, but also cracking a smile underneath his helmet says:

"Oh yeah? Then why did he choose me to be CEO of Archeon then? Chairwoman's a cushy job, but there's no actual management there."

>Hyperia immediately retorts, stifling a laugh all the while saying:

"Oh please. CEO was the easiest job in the world with what dad left you. He basically gave you an instruction sheet to follow. Orion's the one who does all the work as COO anyways."

>Mosaic then states:

"Orion? Seriously? Orion can't manage his way out of a paper back without getting bored!"

>The two of them continue to playfully bicker and banter in the sky as Andromeda lowers down to the ground beside Scalar, sighing. She gives the two of them above a playful smile as she then says to Scalar:

"Honestly asking here, Jonah. But have they always been like this? Their entire lives?"

>Sighing softly, Scalar also gives a warm smile beneath his mask as he then says:

"In all honesty, Stella? Yes, they have. It was always somewhat endearing - as they clearly care for each other. But at certain times, it has a tendency to lose its novelty and instead becomes quite grating. Though, they are my family in either regard, and we've learned to live with it honestly."

>Location: Sanctuary City - Residential Sector
>Time: 5:00 PM

"That should be all. I've swept the area twice to ensure that the residual memetostrain of the Effigy parasite is scrubbed from existence."

>Isaac says, as he looks on and sees the rest of Aiden and Phoebe's family continuing to eat their food at the backyard cookout. Aiden, Phoebe and Stella are talking to Isaac, as Jonah, Kira, Jason and Silas are busy talking and eating in the distance.

"Thanks for showing up on short notice for this, Isaac. I wasn't sure if we did a good enough job of wiping the Effigy out."

>Isaac looks at Stella and gives her a proud smile, looking down at his tome for a moment and scanning it as he continues to speak.

"You did exceptionally well given the circumstances, Stella. The gravimetric singularity spell in particular was a nice touch. Containing the effigy using a magical spell that you knew Aiden and Phoebe didn't have experience handling - was a demonstration of quick thinking and tactical prowess."

>Stella feels her cheeks turn red at the praise, causing Aiden to cross his arms and rolls his eyes behind his sunglasses. Phoebe catches the motion and begins teasing him, saying:

"Careful snow white. If you're not careful, Isaac's going sweep her off her feet~"

>Aiden flicks a french fry at Phoebe at quite literally faster-than-light speeds, only for Phoebe to catch it with her fingers, still looking smug.

"Remember, I'm just as fast as you, little brother."

>Scowling, Aiden then states:

"Oh believe me, sis. I know. You never shut up about it."

>Isaac sighs and then looks at Aiden and Phoebe, telling them:

"You both did a great job as well. Despite being faced with someone who had your combined powers, you showed a remarkable degree of coordination with Stella and Jonah."

>Aiden is silent for a moment as he then says:

"Look Isaac. Don't let the constant banter give the wrong impression about us. We don't screw around when innocent people's lives are at stake."

>Phoebe's expression immediately morphs into that of a serious, strong-eyed figure, as she glares at Isaac and nods in solemn silence.

"Yeah. We take the job seriously. We've done mock training and sparring for over a decade. When push comes to shove and people's lives are at stake? We can push back twice as hard."

>Isaac looks at Aiden and Phoebe again, with his expression changing from slight shock, towards understanding. He then closes his eyes and then opens them again, stating:

"I understand Aiden, Phoebe. But still, I want both of you to know."

>Opening his eyes, Isaac stares intently at both Aiden and Phoebe, looking between them as his gaze softens with a hint of sadness in it.

"…You're not being held to a standard that you have to abide by. Unlike me, you don't have a job that you're ordained by destiny to fulfill. Never allow yourself to feel crushed by the weight of an unnecessary burden. I don't want either of you to become like me - someone who never even got to see his own parents before they….."

>Isaac then closes his eyes once more, rubbing his temples, as he then feels two hands on his two shoulders. Opening his eyes in surprise, he looks up to see Aiden and Phoebe standing on either side of him, each of them giving a warm smile as they each speak.

"Believe me, Isaac. We've both got a litany of mistakes that we've made, mistakes that we'd do anything to undo."

>Aiden says, as Phoebe looks at Isaac and continues speaking:

"But we both learned pretty early on, that screwing up and feeling pain is a part of life. As paradoxical as it sounds, the pain of failing and falling down is what makes life worth living. There's no real weight to a good decision, if you've never made the wrong one prior."

>Stella stands up and walks over to Phoebe, giving her a hug as she says:

"Your optimism and hope is what I like the most about you, Phoebe. If I was more like you….than maybe things would've been different with my family and my people."

>Stella's eyes drift downwards in sadness for a moment, before she then turns to Isaac and states:

"More than anyone here, I've let people down my entire life - for thousands of years. I turned a blind eye to so many injustices and crimes, that I can barely look myself in the mirror. The weight of the guilt….It's honestly crushing at times."

>Looking at Isaac with a more determined and resolute expression on her face, Stella then says:

"But the one thing that kept me going all this time, was the hope that I could one day do better - and make up for my mistakes by protecting others in the future. That, more than anything, is what keeps me going."

>Stella then looks at Aiden, with a profound expression of serenity on her face as she states:

"As for you, 'little flame' - I'll be blunt. You are incredibly dense, stubborn, myopic, narrow minded, overconfident, cocky and reckless to a fault."

>Aiden scoffs and looks off to the side, clearly annoyed. Stella however, walks over past Phoebe and Isaac, and towards Aiden. Once she reaches him, she looks him square in the eyes as her expression softens.

"But you are also determined, headstrong, courageous, defiant and empathic. You care about people to such a degree, that you're willing to throw away anything and everything of yourself for others - like you did for me when…."

>Stella falls silent, as she doesn't need to further elaborate on the situation that she is referring to.

"Even then, at your lowest point - I didn't hate you for what you did. Because I know that you did it for me, even if it was misguided. That's what I love the most about you Aiden. You always put others before yourself, even if it kills you."

>Stella then leans in and slightly raises on her tiptoes to give Aiden a kiss, before she then pulls back and says:

"That's why I care about you. Because you care about others, even if you're too proud to show it."

>Aiden, for the first time in the entire day, feels his cheeks flush red - as his eyes are hidden behind his sunglasses.

"…….."

>Isaac, still sitting, gives a warm smile at the exchange, telling Aiden and Stella:

"…..You two remind me a lot of a certain pair I met years ago. Very similar in demeanor. The man was headstrong and confident to a fault. But he cared, he really did. The woman was more in tune with her emotions. She always knew how to reach the man in his heart - even if he didn't want to admit it."

>Adjusting his glasses, he then says:

"I'll let Magister know that you've finally 'grown up' as he would call it."

>Aiden then looks at Stella, leaning in to give her another kiss on the mouth as he then says:

"I guess the difference between me and him for the longest time…was that he had something that he was willing to fight for - tooth and nail. Something that wasn't just 'being a great hero' - even if he would never admit it, I'm sure."

>Stella then flushes red in her cheeks this time, as she then flicks a finger at Aiden's cheek and states:

"I'm going to go get some food and talk to the others. Don't take too long."

>She then turns and nods to both Phoebe and Isaac, smiling, as she then turns to walk towards the table in the distance where the other Graysons are talking.

>Aiden then sighs and smiles, looking at Stella as she leaves. Phoebe walks up beside him, asking:

"So, still mad at yourself for striking out with Hiyuki?"

>Phoebe, expecting Aiden to fall back on a snarky or sardonic comment disregarding Hiyuki's existence - is instead surprised to hear Aiden's response.

"On the contrary. I'm genuinely thankful to her. Because if it wasn't for that - I wouldn't have met Stella."

>Isaac then stands up and turns to face Aiden and Phoebe, saying:

"I'll see you in a bit Aiden, Phoebe. Good job again handling the Effigy. I'll reinforce the protective wards around our dimension to ensure that this doesn't happen again."

>Looking at Aiden and Phoebe once more, he then gives a two-finger salute as he states:

"Have a good evening you two. I'm happy you're both moving on."

>Isaac, clearly referencing the long-standing grudges that Aiden and Phoebe held towards each other, and people such as Hiyuki, then disappears in a flash.

>Aiden and Phoebe are then left alone, standing together in the patio right outside of the mansion. The table outside is a few dozen feet away, as they begin talking. Aiden speaks first:

"…What was that book from literature class? The one from the 1950s? You know which one I'm talking about."

>Phoebe, keen as ever, says:

"The one by Hartley? Hah, I knew you'd bring it up. Fine, you can say the first part of the quote…."

>Aiden and Phoebe then start walking towards the table, with Aiden quoting the passage that stuck with them all these years, with them finally understanding its meaning:

"….'The past is a foreign country'."

>Phoebe finishes the quote as they both smile and walk towards their family at the large open dining table.

"…..'They do things differently there'."
